Greatest Hits
$12.55 On 2008's THE FOUNDATION, singer/guitarist Zac Brown leads his ensemble on a vibrant set of country-rock. While the Georgia-based performer is clearly comfortable with ballads (see his emotive cover of Ray LaMontagne's "Jolene"), he seems most at home on twangy, carefree tracks such as "Toes," "Chicken Fried," and "Sic `Em on a Chicken." Now that Jimmy Buffett has tried repositioning himself as a country artist by cutting duets with the likes of Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney and Clint Black, it should come as no surprise that the Parrothead influence has begun making its way into Nashville, and the first major-label effort from Zac Brown features not one but two songs ("Toes" and "Where the Boat Leaves From") devoted to the joys of getting buzzed and playing music in some seaside locale with good weather. Seeing how most of the great names of country's formative era rarely if ever sang about vacationing ...

| | Sheryl Crow Wildflower CD (2005) (Import) England; United Kingdom
Greatest Hits
$11.79 This UK version of Wildflower features two bonus acoustic tracks, 'Where Has All The Love Gone' and 'Wildflower'. Sheryl Crow is one step closer to Hall of Fame status as she shunts the established rock star's impulse to get all experimental, but instead sprawls, rambling rose-like, across the substance-spiked pop landscape she helped pioneer. Three ingredients, glistening vocals, flawless production, and catchy songs rub up against one another in all the right places. These ingredients will cause you to hold your breath on the beautiful piano ballad 'Always on Your Side'. They pop up again on the George Harrison-esque 'Where Has All the Love Gone' reminding you that Crow can reflect and reveal as convincingly as she can rock. If there is a ripple that runs through Wildflower, it's a pensive one. On 'Chances Are', she sings of being "...lost inside a daydream." The measure of her talent, ripe and reappraisal-resistant, is her ability to consistently bring us inside the bubble with her. . Universal. 2005.
U.K. edition. CD contains 2 bonus tracks. Originally, Sheryl Crow planned to have her follow-up to 2002's Top Ten hit C'mon, C'mon be two simultaneously released albums, announcing their autumn release at the beginning of 2005, but by the time the fall rolled around, the project had been scaled back to a single album: Wildflower. If C'mon, C'mon was a cheerful, bright record ideal for sunny summer days, Wildflower is its opposite, a warm, introspective record that's tailored for the fall. It's not dissimilar to 1998's The Globe Sessions, which felt like a somber hangover to the wonderfully weird party of her eponymous 1996 second album, but where The Globe Sessions had a weary, heartbroken feel, there's a comfortable, lived-in atmosphere and sense of genuine affection on Wildflower. Celebrity press and pre-release hype attributed this love-mad vibe to Crow's romance with cyclist Lance Armstrong -- the couple announced its engagement the same month Wildflower was released -- and there surely must be some sort of correlation between Crow's personal life and work, but anybody looking for an album explicitly about her relationship with Lance (the way that, say, Eric Benet's Hurricane is all about his divorce from Halle Berry) will be disappointed. There are certainly plenty of songs about love here, ...

| | Paul Hare Us Exodus CD (2009)
Greatest Hits
$16.45 They say a man is the sum of all his experiences, but when that man is a musician he tends to be a sum of all his influences. That makes Paul Hare an interesting musical force and one that’s hard to categorize. Perhaps his first influences were the Sun Studios records, a leaning he brought with him when his parents moved him from the south at a young age. Hare is driven by and drawn to lyrically driven music and it is certainly reflected in his personal musical vision. While he fronted a power pop/alternative rock group called "11th Hour Reprieve," ...
