"Building a Mystery," "I Love You," "Into the Fire," "Possession," and "Sweet Surrender" are among the songs that benefit from the live setting, enriched by McLachlan's slightly theatrical performance and her muscular yet fluid backing band. The concert looks as good as it sounds, shot on film rather than videotape for a more artistic visual style. Mirrorball also features interviews with McLachlan, a complete discography, photo gallery, and multiple angles on selected songs, elevating it above the average concert DVD and making it a necessity for diehard fans. ~ Heather Phares Released at the front end of 1999's Lilith Fair, Mirrorball is a take-home sampler of the live performances that catapulted Sarah McLachlan into the modern rock stratosphere. Over half of the album's 14 songs are radio hits (including four of the first five), proving McLachlan's worth as a pop songstress bar none, but also hinting at an underlying stagnation in her recent musical output. Though fans of McLachlan and folks who missed her Lilith performances will likely enjoy Mirrorball, it's a little too by-the-book to win any converts or please critical listeners. There is little dialogue between songs, for example, and the sound quality is so pristine that if it weren't for the occasional hoot and holler from the audience, one would never know it's a live album. ~ Steve Kurutz Though not marketed overtly as a live album, MIRRORBALL sports periodic crowd noises along with an astonishingly clean sound. It also explores aspects of the Sarah McLachlan phenomenon--the frank, confessional singer/songwriter style of music that has made her so popular and the excess of commercialism that irritates her detractors to no end. Regarding the latter, the disc contains a CD-ROM catalogue that contains order forms for everything from CDs and videos to temporary tattoos and gift certificates for Sarah merchandise, in addition to the usual web links. The performances on MIRRORBALL are dynamic and inspired, especially in the guitar work of David Sinclair and Sean Ashby. The percussion nicely anchors things, and McLachlan's voice soars over the proceedings. The track list includes fan favorites like the crossover hit "Building a Mystery," the Grammy-nominated "Aida," an insistent "Sweet Surrender" that exploits McLachlan's range to good effect, and the last track, a heartfelt version of the piano-driven "Angel," originally from the SURFACING album. MIRRORBALL, while unlikely to win her new fans, is Mirrorball Music | Category | Rock Albums, Pop CDs, Rock/Pop, Alternative, Live Performances, Enhanced CD | | Label | Arista | | Orig Year | 1999 | | All Time Sales Rank | 103 | | CD Universe Part number | 1110512 | | Catalog number | 19049 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jun 15, 1999 | | Studio/Live | Live | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Engineer | Tim Oberthier | | Personnel | Sarah McLachlan - vocals, guitar, piano Ashwin Sood - vocals, drums, percussion Brian Minato - bass David Sinclair - vocals, guitar David Sinclair - vocals, guitar Vince Jones - vocals, keyboards Sean Ashby

Sarah McLachlan Mirrorball Songs Mirrorball Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Beautiful! I love everything about this album! The songwriting is so clear and captivating, and it seriously resonates in your chest if you open yourself to the songs.
I remember seeing the CD as a little kid (I was born in 1993) and sticking it in the radio at home, and I completely fell in love with the music. Now, I'm 14 and I still listen to the same CD my mom had bought back when I was six.
Rock on, Sarah! Submitted by Mauvereaux (alias) (Fontana, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
If you own no other CD own this one This to me is Sarah at her best, well, except for seeing her live. This cd speaks to the soul and is one I have listened to over and over again. Makes a great gift. Perfect for listening to in intimate moments. Submitted by Angie (Thibodaux, LA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great cd!!! Un bellissimo disco...per chi piace sentirsi in concerto standosene seduto sulla propia poltrona magari in tenera compagnia!!!!!!!! Submitted by polkaudio (Pisa Italy) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Oh so nice! This album exhibits extreme vocal talent, which is a rare find in much of today's music. Sarah combines a tremendous amount of feeling, with a great voice, which equals music that rivals the greatest ever. I forsee Sarah as an artist who will be revered in future generations as the Beatles and Elvis Presley are today. Someone who is famous today, but will be a legend before her career is over!
There should be a sixth star rating for rare gems like this one! Submitted by a reviewer (Englewood, NJ) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
