The combination of Bhatt's sultry mohan vina and Fleck's precision banjo work creates unique textures. Add to that the rare quality of Chen's erh-hu and you have the makings of something special. ~ Tim Sheridan
Foremost innovator on the banjo, Bela Fleck is joined by Hindustani master V. M. Bhatt and Chinese virtuoso Jie-Bing Chen in a collaboration that begins with a clean slate and culminates in a masterpiece of synthesis. Adding poignant but subtle coloring

Tabula Rasa album
$15.98 The soundtrack for Crazy Heart was produced by T Bone Burnett and contains 16 songs from the film starring Jeff Bridges. The movie is dedicated to Stephen Bruton, the legendary Texas musician, and a lifelong friend of Burnett's, wrote or co-wrote most of the original music performed by Bridges and Ryan Bingham. Bruton died from cancer shortly after finishing the project. While officially based on a book by songwriter Hank Thompson, the film took just as much of its inspiration from the life ...

$9.49 The 1996 reissue of WANTED! THE OUTLAWS includes nine additional tracks from the original sessions and one new song ("Nowhere Road").
Digitally remastered by Benny Quinn (Masterfonics, Inc., Nashville, Tennessee).
In the mid-1970s, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and a few other cohorts turned the Nashville country establishment on its ear, introducing a gritty, rock & roll feel and iconoclastic, rebellious sensibility to the staid institution country music had become. The breath ...

| | Toby Keith American Ride CD (2009)
Tabula Rasa album
$13.59 With most contemporary country artists, you could guarantee that a song called "American Ride" would be a slice of jingoism, but Toby Keith isn't like most country singers. His "American Ride" casts a cynical eye at desperate housewives and wannabe pop stars, not celebrating down-home values but wondering where we're all headed on this American Ride at the end of the 2000s, a sentiment not all that far removed from some of Keith's previous social commentary, which makes it a mild surprise that it is the only song here that doesn't come from his own pen. As superb and striking as it is, it's not necessarily a good keystone for the rest of the record, which does have a few tougher numbers that pick up on the lean, mean vibe of 2008's THAT DON'T MAKE ME A BAD GUY -- "Every Dog Has Its Day," the sly "If I Had One," and the heavy blues stomp "Loaded" -- but spends more time on the softer side, even when he kicks up a bit of dust on the dancefloor on "You Can't Read ...

Tabula Rasa songs
$12.29 This two-fer CD from reissue label Collectables Records licenses a couple of 1954 albums originally issued in the 10" LP format by Columbia Records containing music from films featuring Rosemary Clooney, Red Garters and White Christmas (or, as the songwriter who ruled over the latter project would have it, Irving Berlin's White Christmas). Neither of the two discs is exactly a full-scale "original soundtrack" album, although Red Garters was billed as such. In fact, of the eight tracks on that LP, only four ("Red Garters" itself; "This Is Greater Than I Thought," ably sung by Joanne Gilbert; "Bad News"; and "Man and Woman," ...

| | Kleveland CD (2006)
Tabula Rasa CD music
$14.79 Kleveland 'melting hearts & faces everywhere'Kleveland's self-titled debut soars melodically with rich rock 'n' roll that cherishes guitar noise as much as a meaty rhythm section. A pounding, fierce brand of rock that is as much Cheap Trick-influenced as it is Joan Jett, AC/DC, and early 90s guitar-rock. It rings true to the old and the new, a genuinely fearless rock record. klevelandmusic myspace /kleveland"Stephanie Smith led Kleveland into a crashing surge of Blondie-esque mini anthems. Smith's sandpaper-on-velvet vocal surges have never come across better or stronger, particularly on the fiery and fun new cut "Johnny Is a Klepto." Strumming in a black tank top, she's a ringer for Joan Jett, but Smith has a sound of her own, making her both archetype and idol on a night pumped full of necessary noise.--The ...
