Spawned from his reflections while he was behind bars, Bootleg's debut solo album spits out realism and tough tracks. Hailing from Flint, MI, Bootleg, formerly of The Dayton Family, delivers a true gangsta rap album of 13 street-flavored vignettes. Though all the tracks are distinctive and varied, the sexy, racy lyrics of "MaMa" are sure to make players take notice. Fellow Flint, MI native MC Breed teams up with Bootleg on the mid-tempo head-nodder "No Future." There is also an explosive collaboration with Ras Kass. "Sophisticated Thugs" finds Bootleg offering a personal tribute to the late Tupac Shakur. "I think Pac was one of the best and I felt like he deserved a song from me," said Bootleg.

BOOTZILLA IS THRILLA
This is Bootleg's best album, even tho they are all excellent along with all the Dayton Family albums. If you like gangster rap and don't like this cd then you don't like gangster rap dig.

This album has long been a favorite of mine! Bootleg is in a class all by himself with this album. Clever rhymes & great beats make for a highly recommended buy or purchase.

Although he'd been a fixture in the West Coast rock & roll scene since his teens, Terry Melcher only issued two solo long-players. His 1974 self-titled outing indeed reflects the unique tastes of one-time 'Golden Penetrator,' -- an elite group of Los Angeles scene-makers consisting of Melcher, Beach Boy Dennis Wilson and Gregg Jackobson. Melcher calls on a notable cast of support from his days as a staff producer for Columbia Records in the early- to mid-'60s, where he worked with the Byrds as well as Paul Revere & the Raiders. Chief among the luminaries is singer/songwriter Bruce Johnston, with whom Melcher had previously collaborated in the short-lived surf-rock combo Bruce & Terry, which evolved into the Rip Chords. The latter aggregate is best remembered for the Top 40 entry "Hey, Little Cobra." Johnston co-produces and provides the occasional vocal alongside Spanky & Our Gang's Spanky MacFarlane and Melcher's mother Doris Day (yes, that Doris Day). ...

In the 21st century, metal is full of bands that favor brutality for the sake of brutality -- bands that live for sensory assault and believe that bombast is its own reward. Such bands (which can be found in anything from death metal/black metal to metalcore to alternative metal) have their limitations, but they can be exhilarating if one has a taste for the extreme. Nonetheless, there's still something to be said for more melodic metal bands, and melody is a high priority on Grand Magus' second full-length album, Wolf's Return. This is the type of metal that values musicality, craftsmanship, and nuance as well as forcefulness; if the Swedes were deprived of their amps and forced to record a totally acoustic version of Wolf's Return, the material would still hold up. Of course, the fact that Grand Magus combine their melodic/harmonic sense with a lot of loud, amplified, balls-to-the-wall aggression is what makes them both headbangers and craftsmen -- and this time, they do it in a way that links doom metal/stoner rock with power metal. Grand Magus' first full-length album, Monument, and their self-titled debut EP of 2002 earned them a reputation for being a doom/stoner band; the doom/stoner element and the influence of Black Sabbath definitely remain, but Wolf's Return owes a little more to power metal than the Nordic combo's previous releases. Judas Priest is a definite influence, as is Ronnie James Dio. And while Magus still has plenty of plodding Sabbath-minded riffs, faster items like "Repay in Kind" and "Blood Oath" wouldn't be ...
