(6 Customer Reviews)
AT THE SPEED OF LIFE is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
Xzibit defies all the stereotypes associated with West Coast hip-hop. Neither a "G" nor a "pimp," Xzibit's lyrics focus on the things that matter: family and life. AT THE SPEED OF LIFE, his debut, comes across as his personal gospel, with powerful messages conveyed through skilled rhyme.
With producers like Diamond D and Tha Alkaholiks' E-Swift at the helm, the tracks are unique, offering glimpses of real creativity. AT THE SPEED OF LIFE breaks new ground in hip-hop: Xzibit incorporates classical music in the single "Paparazzi," while the emotion-filled "Foundation," an open letter to the Xzibit's son, features the actual cries of the rapper's baby.

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.Q (6/00, p.132) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Thoughtful lyrics, muscular beats and a finely honed sense of melody. It peaks on the wonderful, string-laden, pathos-ridden 'Paparazzi' which...could have been the 'Gangsta's Paradise' of its day." Muzik (11/96, p.141) - 3.5 out of 5 - "...somewhere between out-and-out Keep It Realism and a true belief in the inherent merits of hip hop. The beats are harsh and melancholic...and like his mentors, he sounds about as East Coast as you can get while still talking about the West..." The Source (9/96, p.150) - 3 Mics (out of 5) - "...an energetic West coaster displaying battle flows and make-sense lyrics from a fed-up mc's perspective....a definite must have if you appreciate the fat beats-n-solid rhymes scenario of the bold school..." Purchase At The Speed Of Life CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Jay-Z In My Lifetime Vol. 1 CD (1997)
At The Speed Of Life
$10.45 Jay-Z's critically acclaimed debut album REASONABLE DOUBT earned him much respect as an MC. At the time, it was one of the few albums to contain not only true displays of lyrical skills but slammin' beats all the way through. After experiencing blow-up success with his first release, Jay-Z follows with IN MY LIFETIME, VOL. 1, the first in what would be a three volume set.
IN MY LIFETIME, VOL. 1 introduces the hip-hop audience to a more diverse Jay-Z. Still lyrically gifted, Jay-Z has experimented more this time, sampling popular records such as "You Belong To The City" on "The City Is Mine," and collaborating with ...
| | Mindless Self Indulgence Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy CD (1999)
At The Speed Of Life
$10.39 Principally recorded at The Theater Studio & Mindswerve, New York, New York.
Mindless Self Indulgence's brilliantly named The Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy collects more of the group's outré, hip-hop-tinged industrial thrash. Singer Urine's bizarre falsetto sounds like a sped-up Jello Biafra, especially on tracks like "Boomin'" and "I Hate Jimmy Page." The album's 30 songs -- which sport titles ...
| | Xzibit 40 Dayz & 40 Nightz CD (1998)
At The Speed Of Life
$9.89 40 DAYZ & 40 NIGHTZ is an Enhanced CD containing both a full audio program as well as multimedia computer files.
For the uninitiated Xzibit is the dysfunctional member of the Likwit crew, comprised of Tha Alkaholiks, Rass Kass, and Safir. And for ...
| | Xzibit Restless CD (2000)
At The Speed Of Life
$7.59 Always respected for his lyrical talent, Xzibit ranks highly amongst the West Coast's underground. For his third album, THE RESTLESS LP, he teams up with super-producer Dr. Dre, and overcomes the obstacles that robbed him of superstardom his first two times out.
His rhymes remain as tight and focused as ever, and songs such as "Been a Long Time" and "X:" prove that he can hang with the best. The ...
| | Mobb Deep Infamous CD (1995)
At The Speed Of Life
$8.99 All songs written or co-written by A. Johnson and K. Muchita except "Just Step Prelude" (A. Johnson/T. Perry). Samples include "That's Alright With Me" (Ester Phillips), "Where There Is Love" (as performed by Patrice Rushen), "You Are My Starship" (as performed by Norman Connors) and "I Remember I Made You Cry" (as performed by The Headhunters).
Before their Loud/RCA debut THE INFAMOUS, Mobb Deep's Havoc and Prodigy were introduced to the hip-hop nation on 1993's JUVENILE HELL, portraying their own brand of the "Trife Life." Image and hardships aside, a lot has changed since then, particularly their music which has naturally matured as the pair have grown older, bolder and wiser.
THE INFAMOUS is a rugged ride through the truths and terrors of these two Big Apple outlaws, with cuts like "Right Back At You" and "Cradle To The Grave" stinging the minds of its listeners. This time around Mobb Deep play with the background tracks a little more, having self-produced virtually the entire album. The lead-off single, "Shook Ones Pt. II," blew up tremendously, first in the underground and then on the charts; its killer lyrics and hypnotizing beat pounded a warning into the heads of the masses to stay real. "Survival Of The Fittest" and "Up North Trip" both describe the hectic streets of New York as a war zone where the constant struggle is to stay alive. Mobb Deep join forces with two of rap's most intense ...
| | Nas Stillmatic CD (2001)
At The Speed Of Life
$6.79 Contains the bonus track "Every Ghetto," which follows "What Goes Around."
In 1994, Nas dropped his debut, ILLMATIC. More than just a classic, it's perhaps the definitive East Coast street hip-hop record, bereft of cliché, rife with rich, inventive rhymes. His early coronation proved both blessing and curse, as his three follow-ups, while shining next to most platinum peers, never reached the ingenious heights of his introduction. Just by the title, STILLMATIC makes obvious its yearning to recapture that feel, a ridiculously tall order if not an impossible one, but it comes dangerously close, which merely makes it one of the top albums of its year.
At times it feels as if half of STILLMATIC consists of shots at Jay-Z, ex-cohort Prodigy, and others, at times thinly veiled, other times not veiled at all (the opening two words of "Ether"). Out of the mouths of others, this game would be old and boring. What allows Nas transcendence is that he is not your average hater posturing to sell records, he's earnestly responding ...
