"Newly recorded," forthrightly announces the cover of this album, on which Paul Anka revisits his ABC-Paramount hits on behalf of his new employer. And there's the rub. The re-recordings aren't bad, but who needs them? ~ William Ruhlmann Paul Anka 21 Golden Hits Songs 21 Golden Hits Music Review Purchase 21 Golden Hits CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Neil Sedaka All-Time Greatest Hits CD (1988)

Talking Heads: David Byrne (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion); Jerry Harrison (guitar, keyboards, bass, percussion); Tina Weymouth (keyboards, bass, percussion); Chris Frantz (keyboards, drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Nona Hendryx (vocals); Adrian Belew (guitar); Brian Eno (vocals, keyboards, bass); Robert Palmer, Jon Hassell. Recorded at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, The Bahamas, and Sigma Sound, New York, New York. The musical transition that seemed to have just begun with Fear of Music came to fruition on Talking Heads' fourth album, Remain in Light. "I Zimbra" and "Life During Wartime" from the earlier album served as the blueprints for a disc on which the group explored African polyrhythms on a series of driving groove tracks, over which David Byrne chanted and sang his typically disconnected lyrics. Remain in Light had more words than any previous Heads record, but they counted for less than ever in the sweep of the music. The album's single, "Once in a Lifetime," flopped upon release, but over the years it became an audience favorite due to a striking video, its inclusion in the band's 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense, and its second single release (in the live version) because of its use in the 1986 movie Down and Out ...

$9.85 The John Mayer-esque "Time of Day" is a summertime love song that puts listeners on the front porch with their significant other during a breezy summer day, wind chimes and all. | | Mariah Parker Sangria CD (2009)
21 Golden Hits
$15.05 The world fusion music movement has spawned many intriguing new musical hybrids. In her debut recording, ‘Sangria,’ Mariah Parker blends the driving rhythmic syncopations of Latin jazz with the entrancing, asymmetrical meters of East India. Drawing musical inspiration from Brazil, Cuba, Spain, and India, Mariah’s original compositions are compelling—adventurous yet accessible. Features musicians from the bands Ancient Future, Oregon, Sun Ra, and Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters, along with top Indian percussionists.“This collection of eight original instrumentals by Mariah Parker is just one of many examples of the infusion of East Indian music into Western music, but to my ears one of the most successful.” — AUDIOPHILE AUDITION“This is an excellent album from pianist Mariah Parker, whose work is best described as world jazz. Parker brings a wide variety of influences to ‘Sangria,’ ranging from Indian and Middle Eastern music to Afro-Cuban salsa and Brazilian samba. She obviously appreciates the Eastern-influenced spirituality and mysticism of John Coltrane, Yusef Lateef, Pharoah Sanders, and Lonnie Liston Smith, but her composing also contains elements of everyone from Pat Metheny to Chick Corea. Parker, of course, didn't invent the idea of world jazz.... but she keeps it moving forward; Parker takes chances, demonstrating that the fusion of jazz and world music still has plenty of possibilities after all these years -- and a global ...
