From the late 1950s until 1971--years before his breakthrough hit, "Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain," hit the charts --Willie Nelson kicked around Nashville, selling songs and trying to establish a career as a recording artist. Essential Willie Nelson music CDs From 1965 until 1971 he recorded for RCA under the guidance of great producer/guitarist Chet Atkins and his assistant Felton Jarvis. This is the period covered by THE ESSENTIAL WILLIE NELSON. The title of this album is misleading, if you think that "essential" means "the only album you ever need to own by this artist." After all, many of Willie's greatest hits hadn't even been conceived yet, and those signature songs that he first recorded at RCA are in a markedly different style than the one for which he became famous in the 1970s and 1980s Essential Willie Nelson songs. Still, THE ESSENTIAL WILLIE NELSON is a great album, full of wonderful songs set in a spare and appealing honky-tonk milieu. some of willies best
you get 2 cds for the price ,covers what i feel are the best and most popular of willie's music over a wide span of years,I got about 2 hours and 15 min . of music ,am happy with this purchase.

Best Ever
I bought this CD to play at our first family reunion and everyone went crazy over it - it's the best collection of Willie's songs ever! It made the reunion a great party as long as it was playing!

Willie Is Essential!!
I am not a big country music fan. I heard the song "always on my mind" and had to have this c.d. in my collection. After listening to both c.d.'s, I found many other songs that are truly amazing. Awesome, awesome c.d.!!

This one has it all....
All of the hits I grew up with are here, plus many more than I had even heard. The biggest surprise was at the end though, I never would have imagined Willie and Steven Tyler?!?! If you've ever been a Willie fan, do yourself a favor and get this collection.

It,s just like the other reviewer said.I bought it because i had no Willie in my collection for"Always On My Mind" and a couple others.What a gem and the sound quality!!Awesome! It,s just full of surprisingly amazing songs.Get it while you can. Mark Sweeney
