| | Elvis Presley Promised Land CD Elvis Presley Discography of CDs
In 1973, Elvis Presley booked sessions at Memphis' famous Stax Studios, where Booker T. & the MGs, Otis Redding, and numerous other soul stars had recorded hits. Unfortunately, initial efforts to have Presley work with the Stax stable of musicians yielded few usable tracks, and Elvis soon called in his stage band to finish the sessions. The results can be heard on the albums GOOD TIMES, RAISED ON ROCK, and PROMISED LAND.
Like most of Elvis' 70s recordings, PROMISED LAND is an eclectic mix reflecting Presley's many musical enthusiasms. The ten songs that make up this album run the gamut from country heartbreak songs ("There's a Honky Tonk Angel," "Mr. Songman") to carnal white funk ("If You Talk in Your Sleep") to heartfelt gospel ("Help Me") to schmaltzy pop ("Love Song of the Year," "It's Midnight"). While the performances on PROMISED LAND are uniformly excellent, the material is a mixed bag of strong material and throwaways. The production is extravagant, typical of Presley recordings from this era. Those interested in hearing these songs in sparer settings might want to check out RHYTHM AND COUNTRY, a collection of undubbed alternate takes from the Stax sessions.
Promised Land came from the last recording sessions that Elvis Presley ever had in Memphis, the city where his fame and his legend started. The December 1973 Stax Records studio sessions showed him, as he had on From Elvis in Memphis, reaching out to publishers other than those he owed for songs, and the repertory embraces material by Chuck Berry, Waylon Jennings, and Larry Gatlin, among others. With the best players on hand and an upbeat mood when these songs were cut, and the singer himself lean and rested after a couple of years of concertizing, the vibes throughout this album were positive and then some. Elvis sounds bold and confident in ways that make this album a diverting, if not profoundly exciting experience. It's not as distinctive or as involved a personal document as Elvis Country or the concentrated soul workout of From Elvis in Memphis, but it does feature some fine passionate singing throughout (most notably on "It's Midnight," a wrenching performance). The eight bonus tracks on the spring 2000 remastering (in excellent sound) are drawn from the same sessions but originally appeared on the album Good Times. ~ Bruce Eder

Western swing, blues, countrypolitan, traditional country, gospel -- if it was music that even brushed the airwaves of a Southern state, Elvis Presley at his best could make it his own, and Elvis was at his peak when he cut Elvis Country. Actually, Elvis Presley was positively on a roll at the time. A decade after the end of what were thought to be his prime years, he was singing an ever-widening repertory of songs with more passion and involvement than he'd shown since the end of the 1950s; he was no longer transforming the nature of popular music with every record and performance, but he was a major concert draw. What's more, his voice ...

$18.39 Featuring two different lineups of the seminal British R&B outfit, RAVE UP WITH THE YARDBIRDS distills tracks from their UK debut album FIVE LIVE YARDBIRDS, featuring guitarist Eric Clapton, and a later collection of studio recordings featuring Clapton's replacements, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. It includes several classics, including the almost-hit "Heart Full of Soul," the eastern-influenced drones of "Still I'm Sad" (around this time, every UK band was doing their Indian music thing), and the Ray Davies-like social commentary of "Mister, You're A Better Man Than I."
In the grand tradition of American record labels mucking about with the contents of British bands' albums, HAVING A RAVE UP WITH THE YARDBIRDS is a mishmash that actually stars two different lineups of the band. Side one is new studio material with new lead guitarist Jeff Beck, and it includes several classics, including the almost-hit "Heart Full of Soul," the eastern-influenced drones of "Still I'm Sad" (around this time, every UK band was doing their Indian music thing) and the Ray Davies-like social commentary of "Mister, You're A Better Man Than I." Side two cuts the UK-only FIVE LIVE YARDBIRDS (the group's debut album, with original lead guitarist Eric Clapton) down to a single LP side, a worthy distillation that shows off both Clapton and singer Keith Relf to their best advantage. This CD issue includes several key non-LP tracks from the same era, including "Stroll On," a rewrite of "Train Kept A-Rollin'" recorded for the film BLOW-UP that debuted the new lineup that added second guitarist Jimmy Page.
In its original U.S. vinyl release, this album -- comprised of several singles and B-sides, plus excerpts ...

$7.99 Tropical Transformation Meditation CD - is our most popular guided meditation CD. It is the one where you'll want to listen to often, particularly if you have been angry with someone. No matter whose fault it is the anger stays within you and this meditation CD is designed to give you instant relief. It has been said by the listeners of this CD that they feel much more inner peace and they feel they can communicate more easily. This meditation is gentle and safe and genuinely transforming of your emotional state of mind to a much more positive outlook.About Sheevaun:For many years I tried to meditate. I went on retreats, took classes, read books about how to meditate. None of them worked. I was never able to quiet my mind enough to sit still. So like most people who wish to get quiet and cannot I just gave up.Then I took a class about energy healing, Pranic Healing, and at the end of the class they told us we were going to meditate. Inside I laughed and thought "right". Anyway after about 3 minutes of my eyes being closed I peeked around the room and thought "This is a first, my mind is quiet. Now what?" After that I got that CD and tried again and again. I didn't have the same success, but certainly wanted to feel the quietness again. So I powered through many days of trying and succeeded and became the teacher for many people wanting to gain peace in their lives.Since 1993 I have been meditating successfully. I have meditated during times of difficulty in life and difficulty in health. I have even meditated when there was major construction projects going on around my home.Having successfully accomplished meditation in nearly any situation I began teaching meditation. I broke down each of the things that frustrated me about learning to meditate, what were myths and what was applicable to today's world and began teaching meditation. After most classes the students would ask about me making meditation CD's. I put them off and said that they didn't need me or my voice to get them to meditate. It took the students four years to convince me that my voice is soothing and would greatly help them succeed at meditating. Each of my meditation ...
