| | Mitch Miller Holiday Sing Along With Mitch CD (1961)
Sing Along
$6.09 Holiday Sing-Along with Mitch Miller, his second Christmas/holiday record, is as enjoyable as Christmas Sing-Along with Mitch, thanks to his commercial production and appealing song selection. There are no surprises here -- Miller's records are all essentially the same; the only things that change are the songs -- but anyone who enjoys his sound should find this holiday album worth adding to their collection. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Art Of Mabel Mercer CD (1952)
Sing Along
$10.69 Originally released on Atlantic (602). Includes liner notes by Alec Wilder and Gary Kramer.
Good two-record anthology that features outstanding cabaret vocalist Mabel Mercer. Her approach was brillant, but not for everyone; it was stiff by jazz phrasing standards, and put far more emphasis on technique than feeling. Yet, few have been better at doing highly stylized material. ~ Ron Wynn
Personnel: Mabel Mercer (vocals).
Liner Note Author: Mary Ellen Mason.

| | Chris Connor In Person/Sings George Gershwin CD (2001)
Sing Along
$10.69 IN PERSON recorded live at the Village Vanguard, New York, New York. Originally released on Atlantic (8040) and Clarion (611).
This 2001 Collectables two-fer pairs 1959's Chris in Person with 1964's Chris Connor Sings George Gershwin. The former, a live set recorded at the Village Vanguard and featuring Kenny Burrell on guitar, is one of Connor's best LPs, a bright and dynamic collection of her better-known standards. The latter is a ten-song LP released by Atlantic subsidiary Clarion seven years after the fact; though it's not the best place to look for her Gershwin songbook (check the compilation Sings the George Gershwin Almanac of Song), it's a nice summation of the session. ~ John Bush

| | Beth Nielsen Chapman Greatest Hits CD (1999)
Sing Along
$6.79 While the variety of producers and production styles makes for a rather choppy flow, this disc offers excellent proof of Beth Nielsen Chapman's considerable talents as both a singer and songwriter. While she is often associated with country-pop, her stylistic approach is closer to adult-oriented rockers like Sheryl Crow or Joan Armatrading. Indeed, tunes like "Life Holds On" and "Beyond the Blue" are emotionally resonant without slipping into pure sentimentality or cliché. A strong collection from an honest artist. ~ Tim Sheridan
Producers include: Rodney Crowell, Jim Ed Norman.
Personnel: Beth Nielsen Chapman (acoustic guitar, dulcimer, keyboards, background vocals); John Themis (guitar); Steve Gibson (acoustic guitar); David Grissom, Dean Parks, Jim Ryan , Kenny Greenberg, Andrew Gold, Pat Buchanan, Steuart Smith, Bill Lloyd, Larry Chaney, Bill Hinds (electric guitar); John Willis (nylon-string guitar); Mark Casstevens, Jonathan Yudkin (mandolin); Jelly Roll Johnson (harmonica); Annie Roboff (bandoneon); Bobby G. The generally high-quality compositions (which include "Red Baron") make this fusion set a standout, a strong mixture of rock-ish rhythms and jazz improvising. ~ Scott Yanow
