Sailing Toward Home CD music
$40.95 Contains tracks recorded for Columbia from 1946 to 1951. Includes a 44-page booklet with photos and detailed session notes.
Molly O'Day and the Cumberland Mountain Folks is a double-disc, 36-track collection that compiles all of the recordings O'Day made for Columbia Records between 1946 and 1951. Though her music presages the upcoming honky tonk era, O'Day was more closely tied to the mountain music that dominated country music in the first half of the 20th century. As such, her music can be a little difficult for contemporary ears -- her thick nasal twang is something that modern listeners will ...

| | Hot Club Of Cowtown Dev'Lish Mary CD (2000)
Sailing Toward Home music CDs
$10.69 DEV'LISH MARY is the solid third album from this sharp trio with a love and dazzling understanding of western swing, European cafe-era jazz, and heart-rending balladry. Leaders Elana Fremerman (fiddle/vocals) and Whit Smith (guitar/vocals) have written one song each, and their original songs stand proudly alongside the other 14 assorted chestnuts they cover. That division makes clear their aims at being song interpreters first and foremost. They also choose material that allows them to chug along like the nifty little acoustic engine ...
| | John Fahey Voice Of The Turtle CD (1968)
Sailing Toward Home songs
$10.89 On THE VOICE OF THE TURTLE, John Fahey brings a progressive, highly conceptual approach to his love of rural roots music in a set that's both accessible and disquieting in its effects. Fahey's unique acoustic guitar style sounds much as it does ...

| | Joe Nichols Man With A Memory CD (2002)
Sailing Toward Home music CDs
$6.69 If you think that photogenic young country singer Joe Nichols looks more like a Calvin Klein model than a honky-tonk warrior, just count your blessings that he doesn't feel bound to don an ill-fitting cowboy hat in the vain quest for the kind of phony image purveyed by far too many of his peers. Similarly, MAN WITH A MEMORY finds Nichols unafraid of sounding contemporary without completely abandoning his country roots. There's no hokey, half-assed western swing number tossed in here for "authenticity;" instead, the songs seamlessly blend rock, pop, and country in a manner that finds Nichols sounding equally at home with all three. That said, he does possess enough of a sense of history to pay homage to country legend Tom T. Hall by covering "Life Don't Have to Mean Nothin' at All." And it's no shameful thing when a Hall song turns out to be one of the best on anybody's album.
"Brokenheartsville" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Personnel: Joe Nichols (background vocals); Brent Rowan (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, baritone guitar, gut-string guitar, tiple, background vocals); Bryan Sutton (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, mandolin); Dan Dugmore, John Hughey, Tommy White (steel guitar); Jerry Douglas (dobro); Chris ...
| | George Jones 20 Original Greatest Hits CD (2004)
Sailing Toward Home songs
$8.89 These 20 tracks by George "Possum" Jones, (mostly) come from his Musicor catalog, which has been largely unavailable. Jones recorded with the label in the late '50s through the early '60s with producer Pappy Dailey, and recorded a number of big hits for the imprint. Namely, "The Race Is On," "She Thinks I Still Care," and the duet "We Must Have Been Out of Our Minds," with Melba Montgomery. But there is much more here to discover, ...
| | Jason Smith Tipping Point CD (2007)
Sailing Toward Home album
$14.29 The team of drummer Jason Smith, keyboardist Gary Husband and bassist Dave Carpenter works very well together on this explorative and frequently telepathic collaboration. Recorded live at Los Angeles' legendary Jazz Bakery, the trio performs works by Denny Zeitlin, John McLaughlin, Keith Jarrett, Kenny Wheeler, Jerome Kern and Jimmy Webb in addition to a lengthy workout on Husband's "Three Lies." While there are some meandering moments since the musicians are really stretching out and taking chances, the performances are all quite successful, particularly ...
| | Dave Gahan Hourglass CD (2007) With DVD; Deluxe Edition
Sailing Toward Home CD music
$20.55 Released in late 2007, Dave Gahan's second solo album, HOURGLASS, sounds like a companion piece to 2005's PLAYING THE ANGEL by Depeche Mode, the British vocalist's longtime band. This is no coincidence, since ANGEL marked the first time that Gahan was allowed to write his own DM songs, with the assistance of multi-instrumentalist Andrew Philpott and drummer Christian ...
