| | Jimmy Cliff Reggae Man CD Jimmy Cliff Discography of CDs
In 1981, Jimmy Cliff decided to part ways with Warner/Reprise after nine years at the company. He inked a deal with Columbia soon after, and handed them four excellent albums -- Special, The Power & the Glory, the Grammy-winning Cliff Hanger, and Hanging Fire, before their partnership came to an end. Unlike the more digitized style that took hold in Jamaica during these years, Cliff's records all featured "real" music provided by his backing Oneness band, a group whose membership shifted somewhat over the years, but always included top Jamaican musicians. With one ear held close to the dancehalls back home, and his other open to the music flooding the clubs in New York, London, and beyond, Cliff's sound effortlessly bridged the two, creating dance-friendly reggae-pop for an international crowd -- which is why Columbia, now part of the Sony Music group, has been successfully cannibalizing these records for compilations ever since. And truthfully, it doesn't really matter which tracks they picked; there were only good ones to choose from, alongside an inordinate number of great ones. Still, Reggae Man is probably the least value for money of the entire batch, a particularly stingy compilation comprised of a measly ten tracks. Sure, there are superb numbers within, from the unity anthem "We Are All One" and equally infectious "Reggae Night" on to the rootsier "Reggae Down Babylon" and across the rockers-styled "Peace Officer." But with so many compilations to choose from, why not grab one with more music? ~ Jo-Ann Greene
Although it doesn't include his biggest hits, Reggae Man features good songs like "Roots Radical," "Rub-A-Dub Partner, " "Peace Officer" and others. ~ Keith Farley Jimmy Cliff Reggae Man Songs Reggae Man Review

Reggae Man album
$9.99 Black Eyed Peas, the hip-hop crossover juggernaut that propelled singer Fergie and producer Will.I.Am to superstardom, have, since 2003's ELEPHUNK, been audaciously plugging away at their bombastic but lighthearted style of rap-cum-dance pop--an effort that has translated to a run of successful chart-topping singles including "My Humps," "Pump It," and "Don't Phunk with My Heart." Eager to follow up on the platinum-selling success of 2005's MONKEY BUSINESS, Black Eyed Peas have returned with THE E.N.D. (an acronym ...

| | Rita Marley Harambe CD (1988)
Reggae Man music CDs
$15.39 Low-key but likable, Rita Marley's second album after her husband's death in 1981 breaks little new ground. As on her solo debut, Who Feels It Knows It, members of Bob Marley's crack touring band, the Wailers, help out on the material. Their role underscores the sense of familiarity here, even if their professionalism could stand more spark at times. On the other hand, the discreet backup style allows Rita's vocal star to shine; she's in especially fine fettle on the bouncy title track. The unhurried grooves that made Who Feels It Knows It so appealing -- spiced with unobtrusive guitars and keyboards -- are fully evident here, while the rhythm work is sturdy and ...

| | Gladiators At Studio One: Bongo Red CD (1998)
Reggae Man CD music
$13.95 This superb collection, which consists primarily of rare tracks, shows Albert Griffiths and his band at the height of their powers in the early to mid-'70s. The core of the album is fifteen tracks recorded at Clement Dodd's Studio One, and there's a surprising variety of sound in evidence, from the drum machine-driven version of "Roots Natty" to the dark and reverb-drenched setting of "Bongo Red." While the Gladiators were a harmony trio along the same general lines as the Mighty Diamonds and Culture, they distinguished themselves from their peers by being accomplished instrumentalists as well; they play with a tight assurance that underscores their vocals nicely. As a special bonus, this album is appended by two songs ("Time" and "Ungrateful Girl") recorded with Lee Perry at his legendary Black Ark studio. "Ungrateful Girl," in particular, shows a powerful synergy between the Gladiators and the Upsetter; ...
| | John Entwistle Left For Live CDs (1999)
Reggae Man music CDs
$13.89 LEFT FOR LIVE contains material recorded live on John Entwistle's 1998 tour.
Although he hadn't released a proper solo album in eighteen years (1981's TOO LATE THE HERO was his last), John Entwistle assembled 'The John Entwistle Band' and began touring in the late 1990s. A live album was released in 1999, LEFT FOR LIVE, which combined both solo favorites as well as Who compositions (similar in set up to his KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR disc). And while LEFT FOR LIVE may lack some of the fire of the aforementioned FLOWER HOUR release, it's still worthy of any Entwistle fan. There are stirring versions of such Who rockers "905," "Success Story," "Had Enough," and "Real Me" as well the mournful solo favorite "Too Late the Hero." Historically speaking, the most interesting aspect of this release is the inclusion of "Shakin' All Over" and "Young Man Blues," two covers ...
