(7 Customer Reviews)
Chet Atkins' renditions of these beloved Christmas standards invoke the spirit of the season. He celebrates life, and Christmas, in styles by turns jazzy, (Western) swinging, and classical.
For many of the traditional Christmas songs, such as "O Come All Ye Faithful" and the medley, "The Coventry Carol/God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen," Atkins plays a nylon-stringed acoustic guitar in a classical vein. On the other hand, on Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" and "Jingle Bell Rock," Atkins performs using the country swing style for which he is so well known. In whatever style he plays, with the subtle accompaniment of the Anita Kerr singers Chet Atkins captures the essence of Christmas with every note.
Originally released on RCA (2423).

| Christmas With Chet Atkins Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews my favorite christmas album I was so happy to find this on CD. I have the original vinyl RCA album from 1961. It was my parents album since I was born in 1969 but I can still remember lying on the floor at christmas and listening to the soothing, upbeat music that Chet Atkins captured in his music. CHET IS STILL THE BEST WHAT ELSE CAN BE SAID ABOUT CHET ATKINS. HE DOES CHRISTMAS HIS WAY AND IT WORKS. WHERE DID ALL THE GREAT GUITARISTS GO? Submitted by a reviewer (Fairbanks Alaska USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of Chet Atkins' very best albums. There are two albums that define Chet Atkins. One is “My Favorite Guitars” and this is the other. If you like (instrumental) Christmas music that will stir your soul and get your foot tappin’, buy this album. If you like great guitar playing, buy this album. If you are a Chet Atkins fan, you MUST buy them both. Recording quality is excellent as is the stereo mix. The interplay between Chet’s guitar(s) and the other instruments is superb; sweet, mellow, and intimate. Guitar playing as only the great Mr. Atkins can do. Recorded at the pinnacle of his career, Mr. Atkins is truly THE “Guitar Genius”. Submitted by nowatt (Winchester, IN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Christmas With Chet Atkins album
$12.69 60 miles east of Los Angeles where the urban sprawl finally starts to thin out and the desert starts to take over sits the old railroad town of San Bernardino. In 1978 when Rick Shea was growing up there, dozens of honky-tonks and truck stop bars still lined the outskirts, tough places where the remnants of California's golden age of country music still drifted through like the hot winds. "I started playing folk and coffeehouse gigs after high school and I sort of fell into the country music scene. As a sideman and a singer I worked six or seven nights a week. It was rough sometimes but a good education. That's where I first heard a lot of those old songs - a lot of Merle Haggard and a lot of George Jones."Shea has managed to parlay that tough but real education into a successful career as a solo artist, with five critically acclaimed albums and appearances at the Strawberry Festival, the Tucson Folk Festival, the Canmore Folk Festival, the Freight and Salvage, McCabe's Guitar Shop and many of the other folk, rock and acoustic venues in California and the West. "Staunchly independent...represents the best of California music," -Jonny Whiteside/LA Weekly. Shea's voice is smooth and bittersweet and his guitar playing goes from subtle on the ballads to blazing through the rockers. His songs are almost cinematic in their scope and embrace everything from norteño and border rock to the more traditional folk and country music of California that he grew up with. "He has a storyteller's sense of detail and more, a sense for which details to leave out," -Jim Washburn/OC Weekly. As a sideman, Shea has worked with everyone from roots rock kingpin Dave Alvin to folk chanteuse Katy Moffatt to indie rock legends R.E.M. As a member of Dave Alvin's band, 'The Guilty Men', Rick toured the U.S. and Europe for 6 years as an opener and multi-instrumental sideman, playing everywhere from Hollywood to Austin to Madison Square Garden and played on all of Dave's albums during that time ...

Christmas With Chet Atkins songs
$15.19 BiographyGreg MeckesGreg Meckes was born in Buffalo, NY in 1968 and actually started his musical endeavors on drums. Being influenced by a musical family, he was exposed to a variety of music growing up including Frank Zappa, King Crimson, and Buddy Rich. However, after hearing Dixie Dregs, his taste changed to guitar thanks to Steve Morse. "I was overwhelmed by him. Not only his playing, but his compositions. I immediately recognized the importance of being a composer over being a player."While looking up to several players along the way including Scott Henderson and Michael Hedges, Greg never really tried to analyze or play any of their music. "I always respected them tremendously. Whenever I would try to learn some of their material, I couldn't do it justice even if I could play it. But they all seeped into my playing in other ways."First taking lessons with guitar transcriber Dave Whitehill at age 16, and then with other teachers including Tony Scozzaro, Greg made the most of his direction and influences. Having a musical family, it was easy to find an unattended guitar around the house.Right from the beginning, Greg was concerned about composing music. "I was always trying to write music as I still do. I think being able to write good music is more important than being a good player. It's always been easier for me to think of it as playing music instead of playing the guitar."Greg was featured in "Guitar for the Practicing Musician" magazine in August of 1993. Editor in chief John Stix wrote . . . "Call him Mr. Melody." He also won an "Outstanding Guitarist of the Year" award at the Buffalo Music Awards that same year - the same year he released his first CD Square One."That was quite ...
