The paranthetical comment in the title gives you an indication of what you're in for if you listen to Cledus T. Judd's debut album. Cledus' jokes are rarely more clever than his observation that he is "no relation" to the famous singing duo of Naomi and Wynonna Judd -- however, that simple-minded humor is part of his appeal. The fact of the matter is, if you don't like corny country humor, you will not find Cledus T. Judd (No Relation) amusing. But if you do find Jeff Foxworthy and Hee Haw funny, (No Relation) is a laugh riot -- though he doesn't have a distinctive routine like Foxworthy, Judd is more consistently funny and his music, on its own terms, is pretty enjoyable. ~ Leo Stanley Cledus T. Cledus T. Judd (No Relation)
$14.35 Cledus T. Judd is the Weird Al Yankovic of country music, a pillager of popular songs who rewrites their lyrics with a style short on taste and long on laughs. Judd has become a surprise hit with fans of the very artists whose songs he lampoons, and this album is bound to appeal to those who love contemporary country music but don't take it too seriously.
Among the country stars who get Cledusized are Shania Twain and Neal McCoy. Twain's "Any Man Of Mine" is transformed into the twisted ditty "If Shania Was Mine." McCoy's "For A Change" is warped into a tale of transsexuality called "The Change." Country classics get the Judd treatment as well. Johnny Cash and June Carter's "Jackson" becomes "Jackson (Alan That Is)," and "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" becomes "Cledus Went Down To Florida," a goofy account of a car theft.
Cledus T. Judd's debut album indicated that he was a first-rate country comic for the '90s, but his second effort, I Stoled This Record, is where his talents truly blossom. Judd's humor is simple and direct -- witness how he lusts after superstar country vocalist Shania Twain on "If Shania Was Mine" or the Charlie Daniels parody "Cledus Went Down to Florida" or the obvious Elmo & Patsy sendup "Grandpa Got Runned Over By a John Deere." ...
| | Cledus T Judd Did I Shave My Back For This? CD (1998)
Cledus T. Judd (No Relation)
$14.35 Cledus T. Judd stakes his claim as Country Music's prime court jester with "Did I Shave My Back For This?," an album which mixes the Country parodies that made him famous with a few original tunes. Cledus's rollicking, self-deprecating humor is at its highest (or perhaps lowest) on the title track, which finds him enumerating the finer points of a beauty routine which is as funny as it is sickening. "Cledus Don't Stop Eatin' For Nothin'" details Mr. Judd's prodigious consumption to the tune of Brooks & Dunn's "Mama Don't Get Dressed Up For Nothin'."
Judd takes a swipe at Mindy McCready on "Wives Do It All The Time," but not to worry, Ol' Cledus pours out his heart to the songstress on "Mindy McReady," a hilarious reworking of Alan Jackson's smash hit "Little Bitty." Cledus also proves that he doesn't need someone else's tunes to make you laugh. Buck Owens lends his inimitable vocal style to "First Redneck On The Internet," in which Cledus joins the computer age to wreak havoc on the woman who did him wrong. "Psychic To The Stars" finds Cledus supplementing his ...
| | Very Best Of John Michael Montgomery CD (2003)
Cledus T. Judd (No Relation)
$10.29 Recorded between 1992 & 2002. Includes liner notes by Robert K. Oermann.
Though he has always essentially been a new traditionalist country singer in the vein of Aaron Tippin and George Strait, John Michael Montgomery found his greatest success with smooth, romantic ballads that recall the work of Glenn Frey as much as that of Merle Haggard. THE VERY BEST OF JOHN MICHAEL MONTGOMERY lives up to its title by including most of the singer's finest and highest-charting singles in both styles, in the process collecting a body of work that virtually defines the "new country" phenomenon. Montgomery has the kind of soothing pipes and perfect phrasing that endear him even to ardent country-haters, and his material has the kind of straight-for-the-gut forthrightness that is sure to attract anyone tired of the irony-drenched hipper-than-thou-isms ...
