| | Monsters Of Rap, Vol. 1 CD (1 Customer Review)
No, it's not Godzilla with two turntables and a microphone. Rather, MONSTERS OF RAP very matter-of-factly (and successfully) trots out the biggest rap hits of all time and lets them work their hook-laden magic. The producers of this compilation are more concerned with universality than with street credibility.
Thus, in addition to undeniable milestones such as Run-DMC's Aerosmith-inspired crossover hit "Walk This Way," and A Tribe Called Quest's "Scenario," we get the Pat Boone of rap Vanilla Ice ("Ice Ice Baby," what else?) and future matinee idol Will Smith as the Fresh Prince (the politely kid-friendly "Parents Just Don't Understand"). What really binds this collection together, though, is the inclusion of Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back," Tone Loc's "Wild Thing," and other impossibly infectious songs that were consigned to the nostalgia bin by the arrival of harder, more confrontational gangsta styles.

| | Diamanda Galas Plague Mass (1984 End Of The Epidemic) CD (1991)
Monsters Of Rap, Vol. 1 CD music
$10.65 Diamanda Galas, who has been known for both her own work and as a singer of extremely demanding modern scores, created this heart-wrenching cry about the physical suffering caused by the AIDS plague being compounded by the shameful arrogance of self-appointed moralists. Maintaining an incredible intensity and depth for over an hour's solo vocal (recorded live at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NYC, with suitably minimal band ...

| | Venom Black Metal CD (1982)
Monsters Of Rap, Vol. 1 album
$10.45 Newcastle natives Venom had exploded across the U.K. in 1981, unleashing one of the most reviled, unapproachable, and, well, toxic debuts in rock history with their landmark Welcome to Hell opus. An unprecedented example of sonic excess applied to the lowest fidelity recording available (or even imaginable), the album wielded its satanic subject matter and uncontrolled speed like a weapon against all that was considered ...
