This is a rather historic recording, for it finds altoist Benny Waters, the oldest active jazz musician at a month shy of 93, in surprisingly fiery form; his feature on "Blue Waters" is easily the high point. The other members of the Statesmen of Jazz (a group sponsored by the American Federation of Jazz Societies) are all senior citizens too: violinist Claude Williams (86), flugelhornist Clark Terry (74), trumpeter Joe Wilder (72), trombonist Al Grey (69), tenor saxoponist Buddy Tate (79), pianist Jane Jarvis (79), bassist Milt Hinton (84), and drummer Panama Francis (76). Although Tate was a little past his prime and Wilder a bit erratic due to dental surgery, this is a particularly infectious date of well-played swing. Waters, Williams, and Terry take solo honors. My name is Bobby Earl Lahmon and I grew up in The Virden -Addition community a neighborhood located in North- West JacksonMississippi back in the 70s this is a comedy project just plain studio humor my inspiration for these songs comes from 2 sources 1. Real life experiences of my teen aged past 2.And the other comes from current political and social events on a state local and federal level that captured my attention long enough for me to write about themI've been in the church for over 20 years and I've found that in many church circles they encourage christians to forget their past but your past is just as much a part of your life as the present is I said that to say this it is onlythrough God's grace and mercy that I'm still here today and is able reach back into my past and laugh about some of tha crazy things we did back then every song on this album was written for comedy expect Trk. 11 (THE FALLEN CREW)I wrote that song for 2 reasons 1.
