The Everly Brothers are probably best remembered for their early days. As Phil and Don Everly matured, their voices, quite naturally, lost some of the innocence and boyish charm heard on their 1950s recordings, but thankfully, that magnificent period in their careers is captured on this collection of folk classics.
On SONGS OUR DADDY TAUGHT US, the boys perform 12 tunes inspired by their father, guitarist Ike Everly, who, in his day, was considered one of the finest mountain musicians in Kentucky. (Merle Travis was a big fan of the senior Everly.) Concentrating on Appalachian folk tunes, the brothers perform in a stripped-down context, with only their beautiful, silky tenor voices and the strum of a soft acoustic guitar. The album features timeless renditions of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine," a song made famous by Gene Autry, and "Kentucky," an endearing homage to the Everlys' home state. In addition, three traditional songs on this outing were tastefully arranged by the elder Everly, namely "Who's Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Feet," "Barbara Allen," and "Put My Little Shoes Away."
Recorded at RCA Victor Studios, Nashville, Tennessee between April 13 & 17, 1958. Includes original release liner notes by Hugh Cherry.

I used to have this album. I lost it when we moved. My Mother was from Kentucky. she used to sing these songs when she cooked and did the dishes. It brings back fond memories of her.

Probably the best harmonizing duo ever.I had this album on a 33 record over 40 years ago. I enjoyed it until it finally gave out. This remake of that album brings back many memories. But most of all, those two boys simply singing without reverbs, mixers, backup or support. Just a guitar and the greatest harmonizing duo in my lifetime, probably ever. Thanks

Another CD that I had on record thirty odd years ago. No one can beat their harmony. Hoped to see Oh My Papa on this one, but perhaps you can tell us which CD it is on now?

Touted as the greatest country singer ever, Hall Of Famer George Jones is in his prime on this album of duets and hits. Obviously having fun with every cut, Jones sings with rockers, classic country ladies and the cream of the contemporary crop.
Marty Stuart starts the album with a spirited, honky-tonk bang ("One Woman Man"), with Jones hitting some delicious, resonant deep notes. Dolly Parton harmonizes with Trisha Yearwood and Emmylou Harris in what, for her, is the latest of many great vocal trios, joining Jones in "Where The Grass Won't Grow."
