| | Billboard Top Hits 1979 CD (2 Customer Reviews)
Billboard Top Hits: 1979 offers a solid cross-section of what was in retrospect a really good year for pop radio. With disco still at its commercial zenith, dance hits like the Village People's "Y.M.C.A.," Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell," and Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" dominated airwaves, but there was also room for everything from power pop classics (the Knack's "My Sharona") to kitschy country epics (the Charlie Daniels Band's "The Devil Went Down to Georgia") as well -- toss in perennials from Blondie's "Heart of Glass" to Rupert Holmes' "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" and you've got a real winner. ~ Chuck Donkers Billboard Top Hits 1979 Music Billboard Top Hits 1979 Songs | 1. | Heart of Glass - Blondie |

Guided, perhaps, by musical snobbery or roots-rock phobia, some people inexplicably don't like Creedence Clearwater Revival. As the kings of earnest country-inflected rock in an age when radical stances were de rigueur, CCR sported straight-ahead tunes, and may have seemed a bit unhip. But their music stands the test of time with a vengeance. For the doubtful listener, this outstanding, 20-track hits collection has evidence of their greatness in staggering ...

Billboard Top Hits 1979
$13.49 Numerous hit-oriented collections have focused on various styles of '70s music from disco to classic rock, but Hard to Find 45's on CD, Vol. 8 is devoted to that decade's commercial pop in the broadest sense. Where else could you find Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting," Pilot's "Magic," and Hurricane Smith's "Oh, Babe, What Would You Say?" on one disc? A few songs are genuinely ...
| | Garth Brooks Ultimate Hits CDs (2007) With DVD
Billboard Top Hits 1979
$12.35 For a period in the early 1990s, Garth Brooks was not only the biggest star in country music, he was one of the biggest stars in music, period. An unassuming Oklahoman who fused the blue-collar ethic of new traditionalist country with an unapologetic pop side that drew on his love of 1970s rockers like Kiss and Billy Joel, Garth Brooks fundamentally changed the sound of mainstream country music in much the same way that Hank Williams had in the 1940s and Patsy Cline had in the 1950s. ...
| | Pale Fountains From Across The Kitchen Table CD (1985) (Import)
Billboard Top Hits 1979
$11.79 The Pale Fountains' Ian Broudie-produced second record ditches a couple of the scatterbrained influences of the debut, so it makes for a slightly more consistent listen. Not all of the odd wrinkles are abandoned, though; they still sound as if they are trying too hard to distinguish themselves from the rest of the flock. The Fountains' strength lies in folksy pop, but on a few too ...

Billboard Top Hits 1979
$22.79 The Newman Singers, a liturgical & concert group from the Newman Catholic Student Center in Iowa City, Iowa, have toured the country for the past fifteen years, building a reputation for leadership in contemporary liturgical & inspirational music. They have appeared at churches, schools, and conventions, presenting concerts, giving workshops on liturgical music, youth ministry and youth choirs, and leading congregations in liturgy. Their ten recorded collections of liturgical music, written by their founder and director, Joe Mattingly, are used in parishes, schools and institutions throughout the country. Their mission is to spread the gospel with spirit and music.According to Fr. Virgil Funk, founder of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, \"The Newman Singers are a musical group who reflect the very best in American spirituality for young adults. They have sung at our national meeting and always reflect a deep prayerfulness as well as the enthusiasm of youth. Mattingly is one of the most successful musicians working with young adults in the United States.\"Fr. Richard Fragomeni, professor of theology at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, says that \"The Newman Singers, under the able leadership of Joe Mattingly, are a rich example of what a choir ...
