Considered by many of Todd Rundgren's old-school fans to be his last truly "great" album--though the ones that follow have more than their share of goodies for the attentive listener--1978's HERMIT OF MINK HOLLOW does contain some of his last pure pop tunes in the vein of such previous hits as "I Saw the Light." The heartbreaking "Can We Still Be Friends" was his last Top-40 hit. Besides that gem, the album contains some of his most wide-ranging material, from the silly, sound-effects-laden but utterly delightful "Onomatopoeia" to the dark, foreboding "Bag Lady," which includes a then-current reference to New York's notorious Son of Sam serial killer that provoked small controversy. Elsewhere, the hard-charging "You Cried Wolf" is one of his most effective rockers. While not as perfect as SOMETHING/ANYTHING? or as peculiar as A WIZARD, A TRUE STAR, HERMIT OF MINK HOLLOW is one of Todd Rundgren's best pop albums.

a very good one Not a masterpiece like certain previous albums (such as "Todd" or "Something/Anything"), but definitely a very good one. Submitted by stefano galli (milano, italy) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This Album is Also a Friend! I don't know what it is about this album, but it's been a favorite of mine for many years. All the songs on it are good in their own unique way. This album has seen me through a lot of ups and downs in life, but it was most influential to me when I went through a difficult break-up with a boyfriend years ago. It's just good old fashioned pop/rock music from a great era, when pop stars actually had musical talent, and with songs that speak to you. One Of Todd's Better Albums Maybe it's because it came out the year I graduated from high school, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for "Hermit". More likely it's because of its lack of Todd's usual self-indulgence and the fine, concise songwriting. Standouts include "Can We Still Be Friends" and the heartbreaking "Bag Lady." Incidentally, "Onomotoepia" may be silly, but I used it to teach my daughter what the word meant...I can still hear her giggle. Submitted by a reviewer (Portland OR) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Todd Rundgren Something/Anything? CDs (1972)
Hermit Of Mink Hollow music CDs
$9.85 Classics like the enormous hit "I Saw the Light" and the power-pop mainstay "Couldn't I Just Tell You" abound, alongside odder tracks like the homage "Wolfman Jack" and "Song of the Viking." Side four is a loose studio jam with a small army of pals, featuring the magnificent "Hello It's Me" alongside much goofier material like "Some Folks Is Even Whiter Than Me." Rundgren would often succumb to his indulgent tendencies in some of his later '70s efforts, yet SOMETHING/ANYTHING? perfectly ...
| | Todd Rundgren Todd CD (1974)
Hermit Of Mink Hollow songs
$7.59 Keyboards dominate the arrangements, with Rundgren, longtime cohort Mark "Moogy" Klingman, and session-man Ralph Schuckett all contributing piano, organ, and vintage '70s-style clavinet. The songs themselves are quirkier and more exploratory than earlier efforts, with the progressive and fusion influences that would dominate Rundgren's forthcoming band Utopia rearing their heads. Yet, at its best, TODD still comes across as a pop album, with soulful gems like "I Think You Know" and snarling ...

Hermit Of Mink Hollow album
$8.79 After working his way through loss and chaos on the brilliant TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT (recorded in 1973, but not released until 1975), Neil Young deftly exorcised any lingering demons with 1974's ON THE BEACH. The album opens with the saunter of the aptly titled "Walk On," followed by the utterly gorgeous, Wurlitzer-tinged ...

Hermit Of Mink Hollow songs
$14.09 $1000 Wedding opened up for their good buddy Chris Gaffney at the Blue Cafe in Long Beach, CA. In the audience was a local rock critic whose name was Nadine. She disliked $1000 Wedding so much that she wrote a letter to the venue complaining about them. The band was both amused and angry. They were so affected by her letter that they wrote not one but two songs about it. In a similar vein, the cd contains songs with a sardonic, sarcastic and humorous look at modern life and the current ...
| | Scum Of The Earth Blah...Blah...Blah CD (2004)
Hermit Of Mink Hollow album
$9.89 When former Rob Zombie guitarist Riggs starts a project of his own, one expects a strong White Zombie influence. Riggs, after all, spent six years in Rob Zombie's employ, and the influence was bound to rub off -- which is exactly what happens on Blah...Blah...Blah...Love Songs for the New Millennium. This is the first album by Scum of the Earth, an outfit that includes not only Riggs (lead vocals, guitar), but also, Powerman 5000 guitarist Mike Tempesta (the brother of Zombie drummer John Tempesta). Not surprisingly, the Rob Zombie influence is quite strong on this CD, which favors the sort of rhythmic, industrialized electro-metal that Riggs' former employer is known for. But if Blah...Blah...Blah is less than groundbreaking, it is never dull or uninspired -- quite the contrary. Rob Zombie taught Riggs well, and none of Scum of the Earth's material fails to be hooky and infectious. Unlike so many of the post-`80s alternative metallers whose lyrics are totally introspective, Zombie has brought a sense of campy, over-the-top fun to the table -- and the dark-humored mixture of horror, sex, sleaze ...
