(3 Customer Reviews)
Seldom has a British band sounded as American--or enjoyed such a distinctly American iconography--as Foghat. An offshoot of first-generation blues-rockers Savoy Brown, Foghat amped up the rock half of the equation and found a place in the hearts of boogie hounds and head bangers from sea to shining sea. After a couple of albums found only middling success, their third release, ENERGIZED finally propelled the band into Top 40 territory. ENERGIZED is the epitome of mid-'70s jukebox rock, replete with throat-shredding vocals, blazing blues-derived guitar riffs, and a party-all-night approach that makes it the album most likely to be heard in a period film about Nixon-era teenage antics. Energized Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Great Foghat ENERGIZED is a great Foghat album. The best songs are "Step Outside", "Golden Arrow", "Fly By Night", and "Nothin' I Won't Do", but the rest is great, too. This CD is a must-own. Kinda Fun, Kinda Dumb This album starts out rocking and kicking butt....but wait...isn't that the same riff as "Train Kept A Rolling"?
Hmmmm - who cares - it rocks! In fact this whole album rocks, but in a very basic early seventies way.
I suppose the cliche's about Foghat could stem from some of these songs, but I dug this album when I was 13 and played drums along with it........alot, and I got it because I was curious as to why I liked it so much back then, and now I know why;
IT'S BEST TO LISTEN TO AS LOUD AS YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH!!!

Foghat's second album finds the group working its way towards the fusion of blues and hard rock that would make them an arena rock favorite. They were not yet the stadium kings they would soon become, but Rock and Roll benefits from a muscular production that gives the band a muscular sound worthy of their impressive live act. A good example is the powerful album opener "Ride, Ride, Ride": Lonesome Dave Peverett wails over a boogie beat fortified by rumbling power chords as gospel-style backup vocalists cheer him on at the chorus. "Road Fever" is another choice rocker, a song about the rock & roll touring life (a recurrent Foghat song subject) that spices up its fuzz guitar rock with a rubbery bassline and a attractive but non-intrusive horn section. However, not everything on Rock and Roll ...

| | Foghat Rock And Roll Outlaws CD (1974) Remastered
Energized CD music
$9.69 After establishing a new level of credibility on record with 1974's Energized, Foghat cranked out another album of boogie rock before the year ended. The result, Rock and Roll Outlaws, is not as consistently inspired as its predecessor but remains a worthwhile listen for the group's fans. This time out, the group settles for a more straight-forward boogie sound that downplays the experiments that spiced up Energized. As a result, the songs are often solid but uninspiring: "Trouble in My Way" has some pleasant acoustic guitar work but feels like a throwaway tune while the title track cruises along in an amiable fashion but never catches fire the way a song with a title like "Rock ...

Energized music CDs
$16.85 A rather bland Northern Soul collection with only a handful of stellar performances out of the 25-tracks. Two selections from B. J. Thomas "I Don't Have A Mind Of My Own" and Ronnie Milsap's "Ain't No Soul (Left In These Old Shoes)," get soulful treatments from the blue eye soul singers. Jack Montgomery, unfamiliar to most (he only cut a handful of 45's) does "Do You Believe It"; the soulful Detroit singer never got a smidgen of recognition in the States. Strangely includes, the Esquires' "Get On Up" a successful record that's not traditional Northern Soul, and The Chart's doo wopish "Desiree." This compilation is hard to get into, too many weak spots. Also contains Pop/R&B tracks by Leslie Uggams," Eartha Kitt, and an obscure Shirelles' tune "Last Minute Miracle." ~ Andrew Hamilton
There are numerous 1960s soul compilations on the Kent label that seem geared for the Northern Soul crowd in the U.K.: soul music with a danceable tempo -- a trait to be prized above all others, including content. This assemblage of 25 tracks from the 1960s and early 1970s, all originally issued on the Scepter/Wand label and subsidiaries, is average or maybe a bit below average as far as such collections go. Much of Scepter's output epitomized the poppy, uptown New York soul sound, which is heard often here. Though the stomp-beats might be reliable, the songs are run-of-the-mill, and sometimes derivative, particularly of Motown. Some of Scepter's best acts are here -- the Shirelles, Maxine Brown, Chuck Jackson, and Tommy Hunt -- but they're not represented by their best tracks. If you really like those singers and/or the Scepter sound in general, you're far better off getting into their single-artist compilations. But of course that's not the point; those comps would be too diverse for nonstop, dance floor action. Among this reissue's highlights is the big 1967 hit "Get on Up" by the Esquires, for the soul fan who somehow doesn't have that. There's also some competent blue-eyed soul from unexpected sources: Ronnie Milsap's 1966 single ...

$15.05 If there is one thing Stefan Kozalla (aka DJ Koze) can't be guilty of, it's standing still or succumbing to one uniform sound palette. His releases on Kompakt are as diverse at the selections during his DJ performances (check out his outstanding All People Is My Friends released on Kompakt and 2000s Music Is Okay for further evidence); creating beautiful ambient textures one moment, then punishing, ...
| | Status Quo 1+9+8+2 CD (1982) Bonus Tracks; England
Energized music CDs
$10.59 It can be (and often is) argued that Status Quo entered the 1980s as little more than a parody of the l'il ol' boogie band from Butlins that once so-dominated the U.K. charts. "Rocking All Over the World," almost five-years-earlier, was the peak of their endeavors; everything since then was little more than a parody (at best), or a warmed-up revival (at most). 1+9+8+2 didn't alter that dour scenario. ...
