Recorded between 1974 & 1980. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
Indisputably the finest Scottish funk act of the 1970s (or any decade), the Average White Band is well represented by this excellent 18-track collection, which focuses heavily on the group's mid-'70s heyday. Highlights include the immediately recognizable groove-laden hit "Pick Up the Pieces," along with other top-notch, dance-floor-packing tunes such as "Got the Love" and "Cut the Cake."
Onnie Mcintyre (guitar, background vocals); Malcolm "Molly" Duncan (flute, soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone); Roger Ball (alto saxophone, baritone saxophone, keyboards, synthesizers); Robbie McIntosh, Steve Ferrone (drums, percussion).

Pickin' Up The Pieces: The Best Of Average White Band (1974-1980) music CDs
$12.65 The lyrics to the songs that make up the "Masters of Terror" section of this CD (Tracks 8 through 15) form a conceptual mini-album within the larger CD, dealing with issues related to the War on Terror and the war in Iraq. The music on these tracks include a variety of musical styles - rock ("Survivor: Baghdad"), folk-rock ("Talkin' Military-Industrial Complex Blues" and "Masters of Terror") , a ballad ("Support Our Troops"), gospel/reggae ("The Only Thing We Have To Fear" and "More Things We Have To Fear"), and electronica ("Fear Is In The Air" and "Survivor: Baghdad - Epilogue").The three songs that make up the heart of this section ("Talkin' Military Industrial Complex Blues," "Support Our Troops," and "Survivor: Baghdad") were originally a single song. Despite a Herculean effort to trim the lyrics, the song was coming in at more than twelve minutes. So the middle section ("Support Our Troops") was rewritten as a ballad with completely different music. A key change and different instrumentation helped to differentiate between the first and third songs in the trilogy. As Randy Riga worked out his accordion part for "Talkin' Military-Industrial Complex Blues," he realized he could use part of the melody to "The Star-Spangled Banner." Another snippet ...
