THE BEST OF LINK WRAY contains 20 tracks recorded between 1958 and 1976 including one live track. This anthology includes an 11-page booklet with historic black and white photographs, a discography and recording information as well as liner notes containing both biographical and track annotations. Finally, a multi-label Link Wray collection spanning his lengthy career is available. Starting, appropriately enough, with "Rumble," Rumble! The Best of Link Wray illustrates through its 20 tracks (15 on cassette) that Wray was indeed one of the pioneering guitarists of rock & roll, expanding the sonic possibilities of the instrument with a variety of effects. All of the tracks feature some truly warped, genius-caliber fretboard work from Wray, and a few also feature his equally demented vocals. Rumble! The Best of Link Wray is the definitive Wray collection. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Probably the most high-profile of all the available Link Wray compilations, Rhino's 1993 anthology RUMBLE: THE BEST OF LINK WRAY is also likely the best available single-disc set devoted to this largely underrated artist. Many of the guitar greats of earlier decades sound kind of, well, wimpy when heard after the more sonically aggressive--if often much less imaginative--guitarists who followed. This is not the case with Link Wray; although his fuzztone, feedback and controlled distortion were extremely influential--Dave Davies and Pete Townshend in particular owe much to Wray--his playing has enough grit and noise to still sound remarkable today. This collection, kicking off with the original 1958 version of his signature song and continuing through 19 other instrumental classics like "The Swag" and "Run Chicken Run," is as exciting as any instrumental rock disc out there. | Rumble!: The Best Of Link Wray Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) The nastiest guitar around There is nobody quite like Link Wray. Nobody. Link never gets the credit he deserves from critics and he gets overlooked every year by the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame(yet they inducted Jackson Browne, figure that one out), but Pete Townshend once said that if it weren't for Rumble he would never have picked up a guitar and Neil Young said if he could go back in time and see any band it would be Link Wray and the Wraymen. Praise doesn't get much higher than that. Punk, metal, thrash, you name it, it wouldn't be here without Link. 40 years on and this stuff will STILL annoy the neighbors. If you play guitar, you NEED at least one Link Wray cd, and this is a great one to start with. Submitted by elfreak (Shreveport, LA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A True Original! Link Wray is simply unique. His contribution to modern rock is highlighted on this discography. While some may not appreciate his C&W connections, the track "Rumble" on its own clearly puts him into that clique of musos who have taken rock just that one step further. A great CD and essential listening for rock historians. Submitted by goid (Ballarat, Victoria, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Somethin' Else: The Fine Lookin' Hits Of Eddie Cochran CD (1998)
Rumble!: The Best Of Link Wray
$15.05 Includes liner notes by Colin Escott. Liner Note Authors: Colin Escott; Bob Hyde. Eddie Cochran hasn't been unaccounted for in the reissue sweepstakes since the rockabilly revival of the late '70s/early '80s -- quite the contrary. His greatest hits have been around the block a few times, and his voluminous amount of session work has all resurfaced on myriads of foreign collector labels. This 1998 best-of on Razor & Tie duplicates 15 of the 20 tracks on EMI's Legendary Masters Series compilation from 1990. Hits are hits, after all, and Cochran's best is hardly open to ...

Rumble!: The Best Of Link Wray
$13.15 Living just outside Nashville, Rick Bennett is a songwriter who loves to tell stories with his lyrics and create music that enhances the story experience. As a songwriter, he enjoys the freedom to experiment with the many different and creative forms of words and music including the folk, acoustic rock, acoustic jazz, and even a dabble or two in the classical realm. The Short Stories and Tall Tales CD garnered high praise from critics in various media including Jam Magazine, which gave the effort 4 of 5 stars. Rick is currently working on two more CDs which should be out within the next two years. A special thanks on this CD to Bob Baker who worked tirelessly as a producer, musician, and friend.Grandpa You're My Hero - I never knew my grandfather, he passed when my mother was 6 years old. What I know of him is from stories passed down to me by mom and other family members. My mother has his rocking chair, which I have always loved to sit in and there's a picture on the wall with him and his big bushy mustache. I wrote this song while trying to imagine him, what he was like, and what my life would have been like ...
