Very Best of the Rascals album for sale Product Description

Very Best of the Rascals album for sale by Rascals was released Jul 20, 1993 on the Rhino (Label) label. Recorded from 1965 to 1972. Very Best of the Rascals songs Includes liner notes by Parke Puterbaugh. A satisfying budget-priced compilation, THE VERY BEST OF THE RASCALS is as good as any (Young) Rascals compilation out there. While Rhino's two-disc ANTHOLOGY 1965-1972 has it beat in terms of comprehensiveness, these 16 tracks, from their first hit "Ain't Gonna Eat My Heart Out Anymore" to their last chart success "See," are the cream of the crop. All of the hits are here, naturally, including "Good Lovin'," "People Got To Be Free," the superlative "How Can I Be Sure," and of course their biggest hit, "Groovin'." The lesser-known singles and key album tracks, like "A Girl Like You" and "I've Been Lonely Too Long," are nearly the equal of the hits, and overall, this is as solid a collection of '60s blue-eyed soul as you'll find. Very Best of the Rascals CD music contains a single disc with 16 songs.   ...See Full Description

Beware - First 10 tracks are MONO
While CD Universe advertises this CD as STEREO less than half the tracks are in stereo. While the AM promotional singles may have been pressed in MONO-phonic the LPs were not.

Apart from 'groovin' this band had very little success in Britain. In my opinion it was our loss. I was surprised to find they wrote all there own songs.

Plenty of good songs
They started really well - but their later material lacked something. The early stuff was really good. "Groovin'", Good Lovin'", etc. They managed a couple of UK hits.

'Steady Beat" of Blue-eyed soul!
This is the best of the best, Every song (almost all written and produced by the Rascals) afford a great window to the authenticity, energy, and power of this sound.

Very Best of the Rascals buy CD music Today the most recognition the Animals get is "House of the Rising Sun" being played on oldies radio, but in the mid-1960s they were a powerful part of the British Invasion, often reckoned on a par with the Beatles, the Stones, and the Who. Like those bands, the Animals had strong roots in blues and R&B, but, in their original incarnation, they stayed closer to those roots than their peers did. This definitive compilation, masterfully assembled by the ABKCO think tank of Teri Landi and Jody Klein, shows the tough, uncompromising use to which the Animals put their American influences. John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom" is recast as a raw garage rocker glazed with Alan Price's sinister organ riffs, and the aforementioned "House of the Rising Sun" is transformed from a traditional folk lament to an urgent, ominous piece of churning tumult. Of course, the group skillfully expanded those roots (with the help of some great writers), and turned out some classic working-class-rebel anthems ("We Gotta Get Out of This Place," "It's My Life"). By '67, the original lineup disbanded, and Eric Burdon led a new batch of Animals into a psychedelic West Coast sound ("San Franciscan Nights," "Monterey"). The Animals may not be given pride of place in the rock history books, but RETROSPECTIVE shows that they fully deserve it. Audio Remixers: Eddie Kramer; Gary Kellgren; Vic Briggs. Very Best of the Rascals album for sale The definitive Jay & the Americans collection, Come a Little Bit Closer: The Best of Jay & the Americans, collects the highlights of the band's career with each of its lead singers, Jay Traynor and Jay Black. Traynor was the voice behind the group's first big hit, 1962's "She Cried," as well as singles like "Dawning," the melody of which cleverly mimics Edvard Grieg's "Morning Mood" and a laid-back version of "Tonight" from West Side Story. It's too bad that the Americans didn't wait to record that last song until Black had entered their fold. His impressive range and theatrical delivery made songs like "Only in America" sound like they were from some forgotten musical and made the band's version of "Crying" closely rival Roy Orbison's original. Along with the title track, "Come a Little Bit Closer" also features the hits "Cara Mia" -- one of the best showcases for Black's vocal prowess -- and "This Magic Moment," as well as sound-alike follow-ups like "Let's Lock the Door (And Throw Away the Key)," "Some Enchanted Evening," and "Sunday and Me." The group's attempts to graft folk-rock and psychedelic pop to their own sound on "(He's) Raining in My Sunshine" and "(We'll Meet in the) Yellow Forest" aren't entirely successful, but they are interesting -- perhaps more interesting than the band's better-known songs. Not all of the collection's 28 tracks are strictly necessary, but that's what makes it so comprehensive. Casual fans of Jay & the Americans might only need a dozen-track collection to satisfy their needs, but for the fans who need all the hits, some choice album tracks, and Italian and Spanish versions of "She Cried" and "Come a Little Bit Closer," this is the collection for them. ~ Heather Phares Producers include: Leiber & Stoller, Artie Ripp, Gerry Granahan, Bob Feldman, Joe Wissert. Personnel: David "Jay" Black, Kenny Vance (vocals). Audio Remasterer: Bob Norberg. Liner Note Author: Steve Kolanjian. Recording information: Bell Sound Studios; Mirasound Studios, New York Cit. Very Best of the Rascals CD music This low-priced disc is far and away the best single-CD compilation ever issued of the Grass Roots' work, 16 chart singles covering every phase of their history, from 1966's "Where Were You When I Needed You" (in its actual hit version) thru "Let's Live for Today" and "Midnight Confessions" to their last hit, 1972's "The Runway." Listening to this 44-minute compilation, one not only encounters a superb array of catchy songs (and even some of the lesser hits, like the number 61-charting "Come On and Say It" and the number 34-charting "Glory Bound," are compelling pieces of soul-based pop/rock) but also virtuoso production and playing. The material has been remastered in state-of-the-art sound, giving one a chance to appreciate the production and engineering as well as the playing, which (regardless of whether it was provided by L.A.'s best session musicians or members of the actual band) is extraordinarily polished and quite powerful -- the piano, drums, and bass on "Sooner or Later" sound like they're in the same room with the listener, and the singing seems even more up-close and personal. The annotation also explains the group's somewhat confusing formation, and their evolution from a folk-rock band to one of the most successful white pop-soul outfits of their era, closer in spirit to the Fifth Dimension than to Bob Dylan, Roger McGuinn, et al. ~ Bruce Eder This low-priced disc is far & away the best single-CD compilation ever issued of the Grass Roots' work, 16 chart singles covering every phase of their history, from 1966's 'Where Were You When I Needed You' (in its actual hit version) thru 'Let's Live for Today' & 'Midnight Confessions' to their last hit, 1972's 'The Runway.' Very Best of the Rascals buy CD music The Hollies' Greatest Hits, whose release was sparked by the 1972 success of "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress," the band's most successful American single, contains 12 of their 14 biggest U.S. hits, 1964-1972, missing only "Jennifer Eccles" and "I Can't Let Go," for which it substitutes the slightly lower-charting but perhaps more familiar "Dear Eloise" and "King Midas in Reverse." As such, it is very nearly as good a one-LP hits collection as there could be for the U.S. market at this time. ~ William Ruhlmann Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York). Very Best of the Rascals songs Recorded from 1965-1968. Originally released on Kama Sutra. Includes liner notes by Ben Edmonds. Digitally remastered by Bob Irwin (Sundazed Studios, Coxsackie, New York). The Lovin' Spoonful was one of the very first bands to take part in the folk-rock boom of the mid-1960s, creating something of an East Coast equivalent to the Byrds' seminal L.A. jangle. The original group's lineup was regrettably short-lived, all their classic material getting released on Buddha records, so the label's definitive GREATEST HITS collection presented none of the usual cross-licensing difficulties. All the highlights of the Spoonful's '60s discography are here--the airy, transcendent pop of the jubilant "Do You Believe in Magic" and the almost Association-like "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice," the tougher rock sound of "Summer in the City," the romantic ballad "Darling Be Home Soon," and more. The rootsier side of the ensemble can be heard as well, on the likes of "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind" and "Jug Band Music." Led by John Sebastian's mellifluous voice and graceful songwriting and Zal Yanovsky's chiming guitar, the Spoonful turned out some of the most memorable singles of the '60s, and they're all right here. Compilation producer: Rob Santos. Liner Note Author: Ben Edmonds. Photographers: Henry Diltz; Don Paulsen. The Lovin' Spoonful: John Sebastian, Zal Yanovsky, Joe Butler, Steve Boone, Jerry Yester. Producers: Erik Jacobsen, Chip Douglas, The Lovin' Spoonful, Joe Wissert, Jack Lewis.
