Over ten years after the movie was released and long since the original soundtrack has been out of print, Rhino released this compilation of songs from the 1982 teen cult classic Valley Girl. The movie was known for its killer soundtrack, so Rhino's release was welcomed by many who had searched fruitlessly for the original compilation. The soundtrack includes new wave faves such as Felony's eerie "Fanatic," the Plimsouls' earnest "Everywhere at Once" and the Flirts' pouty "Jukebox (Don't Put Another Dime)." Songs by Josie Cotton and the Payola$ also grace the album. Additionally, the soundtrack includes '80s staples from Men at Work, the Psychedelic Furs, and Modern English. The Valley Girl soundtrack is the perfect rebuttle to those pre-packaged syndicated 80's shows that think "Broken Wings" and "Gloria" typify the music of that decade. For those who lived it, the selections of Valley Girl reflect the genuine new wave/pop vibe of the early 80's. This is the real thing, folks. Sparks, Josie Cotton, the Plimsouls...this is a great disc for your collection. Sure, Men At Work and Modern English have more of a main-stream appeal, but in its defense, those songs weren't beat to death at the time of the soundtrack's release. So, it's like, totally okay. And if you haven't actually seen the movie, outside of "Raising Arizona," this is Nicholas Cage in one of his finer (and earliest) leading man moments. Kitchy, but great fun!
