I remembered The Monkees by their brilliant TV Show (I was 8 when it was first aired in my country and love it) and their best known hits but never didn't care of their albums. Some months ago I listened to the 'Music Box' package (downloaded from Slsk) and remained so delighted that began to seek for detailed info about their career and decided to order the first 6 Rhino CDs ..... What a wonderful experience !. THE MONKEES & MORE OF THE MONKEES are 2 of the best releases of their time; no matter that their musical input was minimal because every track beat like a heart by the strong personalities that they developed on TV. HEADQUARTERS and PAC & J LTD show The Monkees as a band and .... what a band ! .... their playing is very competent and the songwriting match (and in some casessurpass) those of the best-known songwriting teams that the used 'til then. On BIRDS, THE BEES & THE MONKEES the playing is again on the hands of studio cats but The Monkees retain the control of the production and, excepting for a couple a mellow Davy Jones tracks, is another good album. But my fave of all the pack is the HEAD soundtrack, a sort of A HARD DAY'S NIGHT on acid during an interestellar trip and one of the best pieces of psicodelia ever done. I recieved my order almost a month ago and I can hardly listen to another stuff. Thanks Mike, Mick, Davy & Peter and thanks to CD Universe.

 A Monkees Must Have
The Monkees music,sounds great,the album contains Pleasant Valley Sunday,Words,What Am I Doing Hangin Round,and the bonus songs include Goin Down,it has a great horn section and Star Collector has a very atmospheric sound.

 best monkees cd of the 60s
i have all the monkees cds...but this is there most creative...pick this one up as fast as u can....u will love it..jim

 5 STARS FOR A MONKEE ALBUM? YOU BET!
This album is incredible. It's as if The Monkees were given a brief moment in time to actually lead the pack. Group "leader" Mike Nesmith stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park. He sings lead on 4 Monkee classics (Salesman, The Door Into Summer, Love Is Only Sleeping, What Am I Doing Hangin''Round?) and hands one of his best compositions (Daily Nightly) over to Dolenz. Unlike the previous HEADQUARTERS, the backing on this album is basically provided by Nesmith, Tork, Chip Douglas (ex Turtle) on bass, and Eddie Hoh on drums. Dolenz plays a Moog Synthesizer on 2 tracks, a rock first. Thinking about the competition at the time, this album blows Magical Mystery Tour out of the water. Although I gave this album five stars, I will admit that it has a weak spot in Hard To Believe. (Oddly enough, the fade out of the track seems to save it, though.) Again, in comparison, most Beatle albums from '65 through '67 contained at least one weak spot as well. A desert island disc for me, for sure.
