Despite the poor design and cheapo look of Rhino Flashbacks' Sonny & Cher collection titled I Got You Babe & Other Hits, it turns out to be a very nice disc musically. Both of the duo's chart smashes are here (1965's number one hit "I Got You Babe" and 1967's number six "The Beat Goes On") as well as eight other singles that placed in the Top 60 between 1965 and 1968. The collection omits "Baby Don't Go," their number eight hit from 1965, but other than that, the disc is all a casual Sonny & Cher fan might want or need. To get a more complete picture of their unique contribution to the music of the '60s, turn to the longer-running but still inexpensive The Beat Goes On: The Best of Sonny & Cher on Rhino. ~ Tim Sendra
Personnel: Sonny Bono (vocals).
Liner Note Author: Julee Stover.

This early release from singer Olivia Newton-John showcases her country-pop mode, with "Have You Ever Been Mellow," "Goodbye Again," and others showing off her refined vocal grace.
The hit single "Have You Never Been Mellow" carried Olivia Newton-John right back to number one, six months after "I Honestly Love You" brought the singer to that coveted position for the first time. The title track is a masterpiece of songwriting by her producer, John Farrar, an exquisitely pleasant melody with a sunny and peaceful theme. Having covered John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads" on the Let Me Be There album in 1973, Newton-John goes back to the Denver catalog twice on this project, including ...

| | Ride Smile CD (1990)
I Got You Babe & Other Hits songs
$18.59 SMILE is the 1992, eight song EP compiliation by Oxford, England's purveyors of dream pop, Ride, and includes the tracks "Chelsea Girl" and "Like A Daydream."
A pairing of Ride's first two EPs, Smile is a batch of eight muddy, shambling wrecks that run dangerously close to obscuring great pop songs. In fact, much of Smile makes My Bloody Valentine's blurry Isn't Anything sound as polished as a Steely Dan record. What makes the tunes remarkable is the spirit of the band, along with a complementary mix. The band probably knew exactly what they were doing, but wanted to sound clueless. It's the sound of four art students losing themselves in their record collections, wanting to sound naïve and fresh but well-studied. Mark Gardener sounds like he couldn't sing to save his life on "Chelsea Girl," but it's no matter. The relentless rush of Loz Colbert's drums and distorted guitars of Gardener and Andy Bell carry the song, topped off by a nifty wah-wah climax. Though the mid-tempo, chugging "Drive Blind" could be taken literally, it could double as a metaphor for throwing oneself headlong into a relationship -- closing your eyes ...
