Though it's difficult many years after the fact to hear exactly how the Smothers Brothers managed to offend so many people in the early '60s, their cutting wit and irreverence remain as bracing as ever. With Dickie as the ever-patient "serious" folksinger and Tommy as the childlike dullard who does his best to upset the proceedings, the brothers managed to slyly poke fun at anything and everything without ever resorting to the direct attacks of lesser talents.

Employing a stream-of-consciousness disregard for the status quo that predated and undoubtedly influenced the MTV generation, the Smothers Brothers revolutionized comedy by bringing a sense of spaced-out goofiness to what was formerly a straight-laced genre. THE BEST OF THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS includes most of the duo's well-known bits, including the iconic and still hilarious "Mom Always Liked You Best."

I haven't heard this since I was young, and found it to be just as funny to me now as it was to me then. Tom & Dick Smothers play off each other so well, and I found it so fun to listen to as I drove through a horrible traffic jam. Instead of getting stressed out, I just kept laughing and enjoying the trip. Now my nine-year old daughter is enjoying it and having me play it in the car so her friends can hear it!

What a trip down memory lane.!! If you saw and enjoyed the Smothers Bros. in the beginning years, do buy this CD.

You brought back fond memories of your weekly show and when entertainment really was entertainment! I can also remember the skits and my favorite gal singer who was described on the air as your little sister, Vicki Carr. Entertainers like them got come around and it is a credit to their popularity that all three are still entertaining us today. You will laugh and be entertained once more ...promise!
