| | Blues Masters, Vol. 16: More Harmonica Classics CD
With such a wealth of great harmonica blues out there, and with such an outstanding track record on Rhino's part in general when it comes to historical compilations, it's no surprise that their second anthology of harmonica blues is just as good as the first. There are fine cuts by many big guns here, including Little Walter, both Sonny Boy Williamsons, James Cotton, Jimmy Reed, Junior Wells, Paul Butterfield, Slim Harpo, and Sonny Terry (whose hard-rocking, electric "Hootin' Blues No. 2," from a 1956 RCA single, is a highlight). The less obvious choices make this a pleasure for mid-level blues fans looking for something they haven't heard before as well as more familiar material: Papa Lightfoot's "Jump the Boogie" is great, early raw electric blues with vocals that sound as if the mike was covered with sandpaper, and Doctor Ross' "Come Back Baby" is one of the most primordial blues recorded at Sun. ~ Richie Unterberger
Includes liner notes and photos.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
This is part of Rhino's Blues Masters series.

Blues Masters, Vol. 16: More Harmonica Classics songs
$5.99 After the end of Aretha Franklin's five year stint on Columbia Records (who tried marketing her as a jazz vocalist), she signed on with Atlantic Records. Produced by music biz veteran Jerry Wexler, Franklin's Atlantic debut found her flexing creative muscle and making music that forever altered the course of pop and soul. Accompanying herself on piano throughout, Franklin's powerful and passionate vocals garnered comparisons to Ray Charles, while her blend of R&B, gospel and jazz rightfully earned her the moniker "Queen Of Soul."
Full Title - I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You. Aretha got instant ''Respect'' for her 1967 Atlantic debut album, now an immortal soul landmark & the best soul album ever released, according to The Rolling Stone Record Guide. This masterpiece is newly restored to its original mono ...
| | Sister Elizabeth Eustis Walk With Me CD (2000)
Blues Masters, Vol. 16: More Harmonica Classics album
$11.89 Recorded in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 2, 1962. Includes liner notes by Lynn Abbott.
New Orleans gospel and spirtual icon Eustis recorded these 13 tracks at the second Mt. Olive Baptist Church, but only four songs were previously released on a 45 rpm disc. The remaining material has been unissued until now. Though not as powerful as Mahalia Jackson, Eustis carries her mantle proudly, and soprano Alverta Mills is quite a formidable second voice on a much more stratospheric level. Dismissing her role as any kind of blues singer, those inflections are definitely present courtesy of the ragged-sounding, but definitely black bottom-hued pianistics of Richard Peterson. Organist Ruby Mae Summers is more in the background, and John Joseph plays unobtrusive bass. A steady, ...
