Fireball is one of my DP favourites, with Machine Head, Who do... and Perfect Strangers. The extra-songs "Slow Train" and "Freedom" are powerful!

||What Are You Waiting For?|
An adventurous and exciting album from a group reaching out for new inspiration, and boy do they deliver! Besides containing the crushing Fireball, the manic Mule, and the just plain fun No One Came; this set includes great outakes from the session including Freedom and the terrific Slow Train. Truly a great set of music. No wonder Ian Gillan has publicly advised that this was his favorite Purple record. So what are you waiting for...?

||Almost beat Led Zeppelin!|
Around this time in Deep Purple's career, the band were battling for rock-supergroup status that would knock Led Zeppelin out of 1st place. "Fireball" and "Machine Head" are the 2 albums that clearly show why Deep Purple could have beaten Led Zeppelin. "Fireball" has an awesome mix of rock and blues, just listen to "Demon's eye" and "Anyone's daughter". But...then Purple go off on creative tangents and give us "Fools" and "No one came" - these 2 numbers are classic psychedelic rock which make Purple stand in a league of their own. I've been listening to this album for 20 odd years now and I still love it. If only Deep Purple Mark II didn't have so much in-fighting and internal problems which then resulted in the band's demise; then they may have changed history and knocked the great Led Zeppelin off their mantle as the Gods of Rock.

Deep Purple and Fireball will always be one of the greatest albums. One of the first I bought on vinyl as a kid.
