| | Smooth Grooves: Smooth Jazz Vol. 3 CD
Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (DigiPrep).
This is part of the Rhino Records Smooth Grooves: Smooth Jazz series.
A nice collection of low-key jazz, with a strong fusion component to the proceedings. Cuts have been drawn from the '70s through the '90s, with a strong leaning toward the 1981-1985 period when this kind of relax-o-fusion was really starting to gain a foothold. The artist selection here includes stalwarts such as Spyro Gyra, Najee, Hiroshima, and David Sanborn, but the producers have been canny enough to include interesting cuts from Roy Haynes, the Jeff Lorber Fusion, Dexter Wansel, and John Klemmer. Some will find the resulting compilation to be a bit too soft, certainly; others will find it delightfully relaxing. ~ Steven McDonald
Includes liner notes by Barry Benson and Al Knight.
Audio Remasterers: Dan Hersch; Bill Inglot.
Compilation producers: Barry Benson, David McLees.

Smooth Grooves: Smooth Jazz Vol. 3 album
$38.09 DREAMS is a 4-CD box set compiling in chronological order tracks by the Allman Brothers Band, as well as tracks by bands featuring one or more member of the Allman Brothers Band and solo performances by Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts.
Recorded between 1966 & 1988. Includes a 32-page illustrated booklet and liner notes by John Swenson.
Like nearly all box sets, DREAMS has plenty to recommend it-and a few nagging drawbacks. The set's chief shortcoming is its two conflicting goals: providing an overview of the Allmans' history, thus attracting buyers seeking the ultimate hits package, and including enough unreleased tracks and rarities to appeal to the band's most devoted fans. As a result, DREAMS is neither the definitive Allman Brothers collection nor the gift to hardcore fans that, say, THE BOOTLEG SERIES is ...

This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten ...

| | Santana Best Instrumentals CD (1998) (Import) Germany
Smooth Grooves: Smooth Jazz Vol. 3 album
$7.39 This German import compiles the instrumental work of the Latin rock-jam band, Santana; includes the amazing "Soul Sacrifice" as seen/heard in the movie WOODSTOCK.
Picking out the best instrumentals from Carlos Santana's thirty-year recording career is a daunting task at best, and a fan can certainly find reasons to disagree with some of the choices made in this collection. However, this German release is valuable in bringing together undisputed Santana classic guitar pieces like "Europa (Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile)," "Samba Pa Ti," "Flor D'Luna (Moonflower)" and "Soul Sacrifice" with lesser known masterworks like "Aqua Marine" and the superb "Song of the Wind." True, there's no "Toussaint L'Ouverture" or "Incident at Neshabur," ...

This was her penultimate album, recorded when her body was telling her enough was enough. During the sessions with arranger Ray Ellis she was drinking vodka neat, as if it were tap water. Yet, for all her ravaged voice (the sweetness had long gone) she was still an incredible singer. The feeling and tension she manages to put into almost every track sets this album as one of her finest achievements. 'You've Changed' and 'I Get Along Without You Very Well' are high art performances from the singer who saw life from the bottom upwards. ...
