Trunk Funk Classics 1991-2000 album
$5.69 Dias grew up between the redwoods and the ocean, in one of the few cultural Mecca’s between San Francisco and Portland – the county of Humboldt, in the far reaches of Northern California. His father, a longtime songwriter and performer, mentored Dias when he picked up his first two instruments: the bass at age 9, and the guitar at age 10. Since then, he also learned to play keyboard and drums. The young talent wrote his first song at age 10, and played his first performance at the Angelina Inn with his father at age 11. “I was so scared I almost pissed myself,” Dias said in a July 2007 interview. Most of his playing time in his early high school years was spent in his bedroom. Dias wrote anthems, and played them for friends. When he realized people liked his material, he began finding gigs and performing more regularly. He connected with some musicians, who formed a band called Still Risen. “We played a lot of school events and later through annual festivals,” Dias said. “When outlets or venues for our music dried up, we created our own. We were always highly motivated to play, and I think that maybe rubbed off on a few kids below us because all of a sudden young bands from our high school started popping up more often.” Still Risen was the only band in approximately 30 years to play at the junior prom. After high school, Dias jumped in a van and went to Austin, Texas, for a year by himself. He played music and learned the scene, working with several bands and musicians. Since age 23, he mostly writes music and produces material for other musicians. “I’m so tired of having talented musicians around and then bands breaking up,” he said. After 15 years of performing and writing, and his family’s and local following’s repeated requests, Dias finally released his debut album (self-titled) in May 2006. “I had released demos before, but never an album. They just kept saying, ‘When are you going to release some of your stuff?’” he said. “I finally did it.”Since this first release, Dias has been playing venues from Northern California to Austin, Texas. During his Essential Open Mic Tour and Acoustic Alive Tour in 2006, he could be found performing at some popular clubs, such as Highland Grounds in Hollywood, The Rainbow Bar and Grill on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles and South by South West in Austin. He is most proud of his daughter playing music to carry on the family tradition, and the fact that he never gave up his music. “Many times I should ...
