| | Yeah Yeah Yeah CD (1 Customer Review)
"Though large-scale success eluded these prophetic '60s combos, consider them the foot soldiers in the Holy War against the establishment," proclaims the back cover of this collection of 28 obscure garage rock singles. When they call these foot soldiers obscure, they mean it; no band here had minor or regional hits, or even accumulated a lasting cult reputation. So this will duplicate little if any of the items in the collection of the garage enthusiast, and the sound is better than it is on most such anthologies. In all, though, it's fair but unremarkable for its type. Some cuts jump out a little, like "Girl Give Me Love" by the Little Bits, who sound all of ten or so years old (although the lead singer snarls and screams quite convincingly), or the Maniacs' "Now I Know," an inversion of the "Walk Don't Run" riff to fit garage-punk purposes. There is one future star hidden among these moldy 45s: it's fairly certain that Lou Reed is the one responsible for singing "You're Driving Me Insane," a cool primitive tune recorded in his pre-Velvet Underground days, when he knocked off some not-quite-serious garage singles. It's the highlight of this release, although serious Velvet Underground collectors probably have it, as it's been included on some of the group's bootlegs. ~ Richie Unterberger

Yeah Yeah Yeah
$12.69 Armed with a passion for the Lord, and blessed with a four-octave range, Rob Mercer is an accomplished vocalist in the field of Contemporary Christian and Gospel music. From the tender age of four, Rob was singing and performing at recitals and concerts in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. The son of an ordained minister, he became a regular opening act for many gospel greats including the late Rev. James Cleveland and Edwin Hawkins. After entering Hampton University, Rob frequently performed at area talent showcases. His popularity grew and he was soon a requested favorite of the student body and the surrounding communities--at one point writing, arranging and performing the theme song for the 1992 Miss Hampton Coronation. Rob has toured extensively, including Johannesburg, South Africa, to teach Gospel music to performing arts students. He has performed throughout the U.S. and Canada, and has sung background vocals for Diana Ross. Most recently, Rob was a lead soloist with Carlton Burgess and Complete Praise. Rob's creative pursuits has taken him into the realm of acting where he has performed in numerous stage plays, including TORN, LOCK IN and 12 Angry Men. He is slated to continue his development in the dramatic arts by starring as the lead character in Rosie Roger's Dangerous Lies and Subtle Deceit. Summer 2002 heralded the release of Rob's debut album, Rob Mercer with Friends, Unmerited Favor, on his own K.A.M.G. (Kingdom Access Music Group) label. In describing his musical heritage, Rob explains, "My father would never play anything but Christian music so that's all I heard. I lived with music by the Winans family, Vanessa Bell-Armstrong, Richard Smallwood and the Clark Sisters every day. And then, in 1988, I was exposed to Crystal Lewis, igniting my love for Christian Contemporary music. I hope people will hear all of these influences on this project." This recording showcases Rob's lyrical and musical writing abilities and demonstrates his love for others in the Christian community whom he features prominently in this collaborative effort. ...

Yeah Yeah Yeah
$13.99 The 1997 reissue of THE SLIDER features 3 additional tracks that did not appear on the original release; "Cadillac," "Thunderwing" and "Lady." Marc Bolan/T. Rex: Marc Bolan (vocals, guitar); Mickey Finn (vocals, percussion, congas) Steve Currie (bass); Bill Legend (drums). Additional personnel: Howard Kaylan, Mark Volman (background vocals). Recorded at Chateau D'Herouville, Paris, France and Rosenberg Studios, Copenhagen, Denmark. Includes liner notes by Mark Paytress. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Buoyed by two U.K. number one singles in "Telegram Sam" and "Metal Guru," The Slider became T. Rex's most popular record on both sides of the Atlantic, despite the fact that it produced no hits in the U.S. The Slider essentially replicates all the virtues of Electric Warrior, crammed with effortless hooks and trashy fun. All of Bolan's signatures are here -- mystical folk-tinged ballads, overt ...
