Save Everything by Shipping News seems to have been split up into halves, the first part being more aggressive and rocking, while the latter half is more contemplative and mellow. While these halves may be a bit different, the nautical themes and style of the music blend the two halves wonderfully. It would be wrong not to point out the fact that the flavor of Save Everything has memories of past and present projects of the members of Shipping News, notably Rodan and ... | Save Everything Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) News for those who don't know about The News... Call me old fashioned...(whoa-never have I used that phrase) but there is something intimate and wonderfully personal about stumbling across a record in a pool of used bins and having no idea what something is, but having a feeling like there could be...something to it. I like to consider myself a well rounded and, shall we say, continually developing music appreciator. I do a lot of record research so I know what I'm getting, and, as many in the same boat know, there's a certain aesthetic that you can sort of rely on for something quality. (yes, there are always exceptions, but, for the sake of argument...). This allows you develop an eye for that "look", that "feel" of the kind of record you don't have prior knowledge to. So, I come across 'Save Everything', a whole new feel to a record that I hadn't quite experienced (later, I would find out this...we'll call it 'organic' feel would dominate my outlook on record judging). All of these feelings of interest and curiousity before I even heard it. So, I get it, play it, and I must say, I wasn't sure, the guitars had this cool angular thing going on, there was a warmth, with grit kind of vibe and the vocals, were in a new range that I hadn't explored much (a lot a bit emotional-but not whiney). I really did begin to enjoy it, the guitars were always what got me, mixing the harsh dynamic shifts i've now associated with umteen million indie groups-delicate, crawling and weaving, and then crunchatized blasts of hard-edged fugazi-esque riffs. (Fugazi was a quick association for me at first). And I've loved the record since, but not long ago, I rediscovered the last track; "A True Lover's Knot". It starts off with two minutes of some hissy ambience masking a gentle voice singing like a mother might to her tired child, I'll admit, I wasn't really "into" it. But it was a nice moment...but WAIT! then the guitars and bass and drums come in for one of the most moving grooves my ears have tasted. That rediscovered moment made me fall in love with the album all over again...I recommend this record for any musician or music appreciator who enjoys intricate, well thought out instrumentation that flows with a blend of flavors and feelings leaving you wanting to know more, but there's a certain degree of closure that allows for a feeling of content. May I recommend music for the heart, music for the brain. The way it's supposed to be. Submitted by eer_kandy (Madison, WI, USA) Was This Save Everything Music Review Helpful?
