Talk about your trip-fests. The slo-mo rubber funk of "Keep on Believing" is like Curtis Mayfield and James Brown jamming with Kraftwerk. "Elektro-Kraut" gurgles, chugs, and squirts its blips across a glowing digital-radar screen. "Breeze" cools you down as you drive through misty tropical rainstorms in your Rhodes Royce. Intoxicating and luxurious, Beanfield's finely etched vibe invites you to get forever lost in the elastic grooves.
A darling of Munich's idiosyncratic Compost label, home to artists for whom "jazz" means "re-integrate electronically and ignite," Beanfield released this virtually ignored and criminally neglected slice of popping plastic in the bright year of 1998. Taking liberal dose of British downtempo, shifting the genre's priorities to include elements of the Mouse on Mars "bleep" school of experimental techno, and stuffing all the ingredients into a space-lab centrifuge (check out Michael Reinboth's NASA shirt on the CD tray card), Beanfield warps techno into "jazz"-through the House and back out again.

So many production acts in the wide world of electronica have pursued a fusion of downbeat house and Brazilian/Indian forms that what was perfectly acceptable for good music during the mid-'90s had become passé by the new millennium. Though they're not in the stratosphere of music-making occupied by fellow Europeans Jazzanova and Kruder & Dorfmeister, Viennese production duo dZihan & Kamien are quite good, and their second LP shows them refining their approach while seeking the nocturnal vibes preferred by many dance fans by 2002. Gran Riserva also displays a stylistic restlessness that sees the pair trying their hand at a variety of sounds, and succeeding on nearly every count -- whether they're summoning sweeping Indian strings for the epic "Ford Transit," sampling-stuttered female lounge akin to Herbert on "Basmati," samba by subtraction on "Stiff Jazz," or reggae chatting over a sleek, horn-driven disco track on "Sliding." Although his name will be forever tied to the non-prolific yet incredibly well-known duo Kruder & Dorfmeister, Richard Dorfmeister has spent most of his musical life teamed with schoolmate Rupert Huber. The pair have released four albums and as many full-length remix projects (as Tosca) in the same time K&D has yet to put out one album. And that is still not considering the time Dorfmeister and Huber spent playing together in Dehli 9, the high-school group from which this album takes its name.
Those who know only of Dorfmeister's more popular unit will be far from shocked upon hearing this release. No matter who Dorfmeister works with, the same lithe and soothing soundscapes come through in the finished product. Yet Dehli9 does stand out from previous efforts by programming more upbeat jazzy licks before running them through the familiar dub echo chamber. This slight increase in energy makes Dehli9 less a record for blunted evenings and more of a calming and focused companion perfect for getting through a day's stress.
Far more druggy is the bonus second disc, which consists of solo piano compositions played by Huber, and subtly rearranged by Dorfmeister in the studio. What could have been dull, avant-garde piano movements come alive ...

At any given moment one can find five to ten thousand Marilyn Monroe items on eBay, which is more than you may encounter for Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon, though thousands shy of Elvis. So it's no surprise that a dance-mix album featuring the chanteuse would emerge, and though not perfect, Marilyn Monroe Greatest Hits Remixed is a fun listening experience. The "Dreamer Remix" of "Kiss Me" would segue nicely with Esquivel and other purveyors of the space-age lounge set. Ditto for James Hardway's rendition of "Happy Birthday," perhaps the album's most experimental track, and the one that adds something unique and extra to the sparse Monroe audio catalog. The "Swing Cats Remix" of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" is opportune in that it borrows heavy percussion from Adam Ant's 1983 single "Goody Two Shoes," which itself probably lifted the horn lines from Marilyn's original version of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" from the 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. How will it sit with the Marilyn purists? Well, these tracks are entertaining, perhaps because they attempt to balance fresh sounds with the original recordings. Noel Dawkins was born to Rupert and Rebecca Dawkins on April 28, 1958, in the humble and quiet village of Crawl Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica. He has been singing with his Brothers since he was a toddler.During primary school and beyond, he was involved in writing and reciting poetry. He became a Christian in 1972, then after a few years in the church he returned to the ways of the world and stopped singing and writing for over 20 years. I 996 he became ill and had time to reflect on his life. He returned to the Lord under the Guidance of Bishop Herro Blair, Pastor of Faith Cathedral Deliverance Centre in Kingston Jamaica.
