Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Director's Comments; Behind The Scenes AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD is the magnificent story of a Spanish conquistador who is obsessed with the idea of conquering the South American continent and locating the fabled city of El Dorado. This is arguably director Werner Herzog's best film. Based on the journals of Brother Gaspar de Carvajal, AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD is director Werner Herzog's hallucinatory tale of Spanish colonialists searching for El Dorado, the legendary city of gold, in 16th-century Peru. When the travellers reach an impasse, a scouting party is assembled to search for any traces of the mythical empire. As they attempt to forge their way through the dense jungle, more and more of the party falls ill while their ruthless leader, Don Lope de Aguirre (Klaus Kinski), grows increasingly insane.
Widely considered to be Herzog's finest film, AGUIRRE, which shares much in common with Francis Ford Coppola's APOCALYPSE NOW, highlights the director's visionary approach to filmmaking. Like Coppola's film, accounts of AGUIRRE's shooting are laced with legendary incidents, such as the time Herzog reportedly held a gun to Kinski's head to get him to finish a scene. Whatever transpired between Herzog and Kinski, it made for astonishing cinema, as evidenced by the actor's haunting performance and the entire film's powerfully hypnotic mood. Theatrical Release: April 3, 1977 (US)
December 29, 1972 (Cologne, Germany).
Shot on location in Peru between January and February 1972.
Director Werner Herzog and actor Klaus Kinski would work together on many occasions, developing a tempestuous creative partnership that eventually became the subject of Herzog's documentary on Kinski, entitled MY BEST FIEND.

Aguirre, The Wrath Of God Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Mersmerizing and Hyptnotic An awesome portrayal of greed, suffering, and madness. I seen Herzog at the Roger Ebert Overlooked Film Festival a few years back after the screening of Invincible. Ebert interviewed him in front of the crowd. He talked about this movie a bit. He has made many movies that took pain to make. He has put more pain into film making than Francis Coppola (Apocalypse Now) could even fathom. Submitted by Joseph (Illinois) Was This Review Helpful? Kinski - The Wrath of God In this first collaboration with German director, Werner Herzog in 1971, Kinski convinces with his destinctive portrayal of Aguirre - The Wrath of God. Fortunately, next to the famous various temper explosions and tantrums while shooting, the crew managed to survive the dangerous and raging Klaus Kinski and finally finished the movie. It is a true masterpiece and should not be missing in any Kinski fan collection. Submitted by a reviewer (Munich, Germany) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.
peculiar My expectations were high... they were disappointed. This film is more interesting as an evolutionary item in the "art" category. Most of its failure are due to the low budget elements. It remains an curious stop for viewers looking for an oddity of an ersatz tragedy in the classic sense. Submitted by for_geary (ny, usa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 2 found this helpful.

$25.05 Director Werner Herzog returns to the exotic locales and obsessive themes of previous works in his Amazon masterpiece, FITZCARRALDO. Actually, they don't so much meet her as fall under her spell when they first lay eyes on her. In her clinging red dress she looks like a cross between a beautiful damsel in distress and the Lady In Red looking for John Dillinger. The story begins with Randy, desperate to be rid of Jewel, hiring a sleazy hitman, played by Michael Douglas in an outré toupee. His story of how Jewel led him to ruin, filmed in a stylized flashback bathed in blue, is mirrored by Carl talking ...

$19.99 Based on a manga by Toru Shinohara, the Zero Woman series was a popular Japanese exploitation franchise of the 1970s, and it holds up strikingly well today. RED HANDCUFFS begins with female cop Rei (Miki Sugimoto), otherwise known as Agent Zero, seducing a Westerner who has been killing women with his sadistic sexual fetishes. Once she gets him back to the hotel room, however, she metes out her own brand of justice, of which her fellow cops do not approve, and Rei promptly lands in jail. Elsewhere, the maniacal criminal Nakahara (Tetsuro Tamba) is being let out of prison, and it isn't long before his brutal celebration leads to the kidnapping of an important politician's daughter. Charged with retrieving the girl without the media's ...
