Faith Evans is no novice to the music industry. She has worked as a background vocalist for artists such as Mary J. Blige, Tony Thompson, Usher and Pebbles. She is also a member of Sean "Puffy" Combs' Bad Boy family, and FAITH is that record label's first attempt to venture into musical lands outside the hip-hop nation. The debut establishes Evans as a true soul singer, separating her from the pop-oriented R&B that has seemingly taken over the genre.
Faith's vocal style is based in the blues and gospel traditions, and the trumpet that enhances "Give It To Me" shows that Faith is just as comfortable communicating with jazzy instrumentation. "You Used To Love Me" is the closest she gets to a club or a jeep, but is still an example of the bluesy soul she conveys throughout the album. Although Faith shares the same producer as hip-hop-soul queen Mary J. Blige--who makes a guest appearence on the cover of the Rose Royce classic, "Love Doesn't Live Here Anymore"--her approach isn't likely to invite too many comparisons. "No Other Love" uses the same Isaac Hayes sample ("Walk On By") that made "Warning" a hit for her husband, The Notorious B.I.G., and is the kind of highlight that proves Faith's vocal talents surpass those of her peers.
Mostly comprised of ballads, the lyrics on FAITH focus on love and nothing else--whether it be the love for her daughter ("You Are My Joy"), or for her man ("Fallin' In Love"). Evans' writing reflects her life and her songs never address a something, but always a someone.

Entertainment Weekly (8/11/95, p.52) - "...packed with sensual, smoky R&B torch songs and titanium-hard hip-hop beats--Faith seems set to take her place at the top of the mountain of young soul divas..." - Rating: A- Vibe (9/95, p.192) - "...possesses a perfect voice. Folks have likened that voice to rain, and it's an appropriate metaphor....can sound as lilting as a summer shower or as electric as a thunderstorm. Her instrument's potential seems boundless....more Whitney than Mary, more classic than nouveau." The Source (9/95, p.104) - "...For those closet sentimentalists or those who like to get their slow drag on....when you're working with the man who perfected the remix, there's still a good chance that FAITH will not only be pumping on rainy nights in the crib but also on summer days in the Land Cruisers too..." Faith Evans Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A Total classic!!! This is one of favorite 90's R&B albums of all time. And here's what's weird. Im only 15!! Faith Evans is my favorite singer of all time. She's way btter than the singers like riahnna, beyonce, ciara, etc. that are now. My favorite song on this album is Dont Be Afraid. This song was a Wayans Bros. episode. Again, I love album Submitted by Brianna (New York) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.

The R&B Bible for Loving a woman It is official that "Reasons" is the best song on the album. However, Faith has matched this track on her latest album with the track "Catching Feelings". The content is not as good as "Reasons" but the trance is the same. This first album can be added to the list of all time greatest Love/relationship albums. Added to the likes of Babyface's "Tender Lover", Johnny Gill's ("My,My,My")1990 self titled album, and Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" album. This album should be a prerequisite for all men starting at age 17. We have to recapture the Love and let go of the fears that bring tears men. We just need a little "Faith". Purchase Faith Evans CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | R Kelly 12 Play CD (1993)
Faith Evans album
$8.75 Raised in the projects of Chicago's South Side, the young R. Kelly displayed an uncanny natural aptitude for the piano, and cut his teeth as a performer by playing a portable electric keyboard and singing with his homies out on the mean streets of the Windy City. The sounds of gospel music and the great romantic balladeers suffuse R. Kelly's work, and on 12 PLAY, his libidinous follow-up to BORN INTO THE 90'S, this gifted singer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist draws upon all his formative experiences to create a sensual, evolutionary style of contemporary R&B.
Evolutionary in that Kelly's a classic heart-throb (with virtuoso chops the likes of Freddie Jackson and Luther Vandross) who walks that historical line between the sacred ...
| | Mary J Blige What's The 411? CD (1992)
Faith Evans CD music
$8.45 The opening track 'Leave A Message' is an immediately intriguing hook for the listener. A series of answering machine messages over a funky drum beat does not fail, even though most callers insist on saying 'peace' instead of 'goodbye' at the end of every call. The artist first appears on track two, and stays in control throughout an album of high-quality urban R&B/soul. Highly commercial, yet it never sinks to the blandness of some other 90s female pop acts. Tracks such as 'Real Love' lend more ...
| | Mary J Blige My Life CD (1994)
Faith Evans music CDs
$10.45 MY LIFE was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
The immediate success of her triple-platinum debut WHAT'S THE 411? put Mary J. Blige in a singular class as a soul-hop visionary, and opened the door for other hip-hop-influenced R&B acts. Yet as the follow-up approached, the nature of her talent began to be questioned, and the strength of her debut became an obstacle.
If Blige heard all those rumors, she must've decided that musical revenge is the best payback of all. Thus, MY LIFE comes across as another ground-breaking venture, linking R&B's new and old schools, filling the airwaves with delightful harmonies AND hip-hop samples. When Blige connects with her music's roots, ...
| | Mary J Blige Share My World CD (1997)
Faith Evans songs
$11.99 SHARE MY WORLD was nominated for a 1988 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
Uber-producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis come aboard for this hip-hop diva's third album, but they don't take over the way they do with more impressionable singers. SHARE MY WORLD remains very much Mary J. Blige's album, featuring 17 tracks worth of the same bumpin' soul that has made her one of the premier singers of the '90s. Blige earned the title "queen of hip-hop soul" with her amazing blend of hip-hop beats and R&B vocals on her debut album, WHAT'S THE 411?, and then followed up with the equally strong MY LIFE, which showed off a more personal side. On SHARE MY WORLD, she invites you to share ...
| | Faith Evans Keep The Faith CD (1998)
Faith Evans album
$8.55 The title of Faith Evans's sophomore album, KEEP THE FAITH, seems appropriate. In the years immediately following the release of her successful debut, her husband, the Notorious B.I.G., was the victim of a much-publicized murder. Yet Evans persevered by making a record that built on the promise of her first album and refined some of its raw edges.
Assured, elegant, and possessed of a powerful, flexible voice, Evans lays it down with a mix of ballads, mid-tempo grooves, and uptempo dance tracks. The latter are the highlights of KEEP THE FAITH, ...

$11.99 It's hard to exaggerate the role that Kool Keith's debut solo album as Dr. Octagon played in revitalizing underground hip-hop. It certainly didn't bring the scene back to life single-handedly, but it attracted more attention than any non-mainstream rap album in quite a while, thanks to its inventive production and Keith's bizarre, free-associative ...

$12.69 In a city built on cars, drugs, and music,(Detroit) a child was born. This child (Jonathon (SUB-T) Jarrell) would grow to learn joy, pain, and how to endure the struggles of a black urban American. Poverty was too common to be recognized between Dequinder and Conant off Davison. In his eyes, vacaant lots, and abandoned houses being utilized by the neighbor drug dealers and hustlers, was the norm. It also seemed to be ...
