Scatter Some Stones
$7.45 Vanguard's The Best of the Darlin' Boys is a misleading collection of nine studio tracks culled from the Dillards' last two studio albums, Let It Fly (1991) and Take Me Along for the Ride (1992). While the Rodney Dillard-led country-rock of the era wasn't dreadful (Let It Fly was one of the group's stronger overall releases), the compilers chose to slap a photo of the fictional Darlin' Boys (who were portrayed by the ...
| | Aliotta-Haynes-Jeremiah Lake Shore Drive CD (1995)
Scatter Some Stones
$12.39 Lake Shore Drive , a classic Chicago folk album from one of Chicago's first and foremost folk rock band - Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah. Mitch Aliota, Skip Haynes and John Jeremiah were Chicago's and one of the Midwest's favorite bands all through the Seventies and early Eighties. The songs on the CD range from the unforgetable piano, violin and vocal stylings of LSD to the beautiful and haunting "For Eddy" - the story of an amazing one armed piano player and a white German Shepard to dancing on the mountains of the moon in "Midnight Palne To Nairobi to "Beam Me Up Scotty" - a tribute to Star Trek and Mr. Scott in particular. The songs also include "One Night Stand", "Snow Queen" - a seventies love song, "A Shot Of Gold" - in the best traditions of the lonesome bar song. All of the cuts tell a great story told in beautiful harmonies, incredible piano and a great deal of good time energy. Try it - you'll like it.For ...

| | Mixed Media Series: Basquiat Salutes CD (2005)
Scatter Some Stones
$12.49 Basquiat Salutes Jazz is a shameless attempt at cashing in on the memory of the great painter by pairing his love of jazz music -- and Tom Terrell referencing himself and the late artist's record collection -- and Fantasy's jazz catalog. While the biographical essay and Terrell's self-serving essay are interesting and the cover art is wonderful, these 12 cuts have been heard many times in many different ways, amounting to nothing more than a bebop compilation with a groovy cover. This smells like exploitation. ~ Thom Jurek
According to the liner essay by Tom Terrell, Jean-Michel Basquiat loved jazz. Anyone familiar with his painting already knew this. This compilation of classic bebop cuts from Fantasy's vast catalog contains 12 tracks by major artists -- Miles, Mingus, Roach, Gillespie, Parker -- and a fine cover. ~ Thom Jurek
