(4 Customer Reviews)
Once again Ice Cube commits you to check yo self, yo tapes, yo CDs and yo wax. BOOTLEGS & B-SIDES gives up what you missed by only buying the long-playing releases and not the singles; providing essential obscurities and miscellaneous collectibles (i.e. remixes and b-sides galore). And Cube-style remixes do not just add samples and beats, but mark the creation of entirely new tracks with various loop and lyrical changes. So if you thought the ballad-like "What Can I Do?" was nice and warm the first time around, beware the included remix which drops with more of a hardcore funk feel.
The b-sides represent Ice Cube doing what he does best--telling stories. The tales range from "sexual escapades" ("2 N The Morning") to being condemned because of one's skin tone ("My Skin Is My Sin"). All the while Cube's lyrical ferocity provides insights into the "perpetrator's" point of view, mischievously jabbing at the system, and generally portraying the strange comedy that life presents us and that lies just around the corner.
Thus, BOOTLEGS AND B-SIDES is a must purchase not only for Ice Cube devotees, but for any one who loves to hear a story told with bounce, humor, South Central panache, and a realistic urban tone. Track it down-- borrowing something this phat would just not be enough.

R. Kelly proves that he's as prolific as he is talented on the two-disc set R., which not only culls together his most noteworthy and successful work, but is bursting with new tracks as well. Filled from start to finish with Kelly's unique blend of smooth vocal stylings and no-nonsense lyrical stance, this album also features the work of a few of his prominent friends--the opener, "Home Alone" sports a guest rap courtesy of Keith Murray, while "Money Makes The World Go Round" is graced by Nas.
A more mainstream pairing is witnessed in the dramatic show stopper "I'm your Angel," which finds ...

Bootlegs & B-Sides music CDs
$11.39 This disc is subtitled THE WAR DISC, which makes a great deal of sense, given the aggressive nature of most of the tracks. Throughout the album, Ice Cube plays it smart by sticking close to his hardcore gangsta roots. On WAR & PEACE, Ice Cube presents the gritty underside of contemporary ghetto life, without sparing us any of the gorier details. It's not that he revels in the darker side of life, just that, like everyone from Johnny Cash to Leonard Cohen, he sees no reason in beating around the bush when representing unpleasant circumstances. Instead, he jumps in with both feet. "Once Upon a Time in the Projects" is ...
