Newcastle's entry in the British Invasion burned brightly and briefly, officially disbanding in 1968, but the heart of the unit had been pierced in 1965, barely a year after the original five members began recording, when co-founder and multi-instrumentalist Alan Price quit. This ABCKO compilation was originally released around the time of Price's departure. It features a respectable sampling of the greatest hits of The Animals' first lineup, from their signature hit version of "House Of the Rising Sun" and the oft-covered gem "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," to their brilliant take on Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home To Me."
The sound, while unspectacular, adequately captures the sincere soul of Eric Burdon's unmistakable mournful, yet arrogant, wail. As an added treat, the album's cheeky original liner notes, a rundown on the "boys'" likes and dislikes, are included here.

There isn't one band today that can sing these songs, especially "House of the Rising Sun" like Eric Burden and the Animals. I am proud that it's still played on the radio today, over 40 years later....shows what good music and songs are really remembered and enjoyed. These guys are Icons and definitely rock, they always did, and always will. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE CAN SING LIKE ERIC.....

I have been looking forthis CD for some time now and was pleased to find it. The
CD is every bit as good asI remembered it fromthe Middle 60's. If you like the animals this is a must for yor collection.

This BEST OF package has some very great numbers on it. Highlights include THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN,AROUND AND AROUND,DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD,BOOM BOOM,WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE,I'M IN LOVE AGAIN,BURY MY BODY,GONNA SEND YOU BACK TO WALKER,STORY OF BO DIDDLEY,IT'S MY LIFE and BRING IT ON HOME TO ME.

one of the most underrated bands in rock n'roll history. eric burdon and the guys perform some of rock n' rolls greatest sounds. my personal favorite is john lee hookers 'boom boom'.there isn't a bad song on the whole album. 'house of the rising sun,and ''we gotta get out of this place' are two more of the great songs on this album.
