Lori Carson's second solo album is the real start of her solo career--1990's SHELTER is an over-produced misfire which Carson doesn't discuss much--and it follows naturally from her exceptional work with the Golden Palominos, even to the extent that Palominos bandleader Anton Fier produced it. A somber but never dour record, WHERE IT GOES features some exquisite melodies and marvelous, though largely downcast, lyrics.
Carson's beautiful voice, less overtly sexy than on the Palominos' records, but still with an erotic undertone, is front and center on all 10 songs. A melancholy tone runs throughout the record, reaching an emotional climax with the searing "Fell Into the Loneliness." Happily, the album's two most optimistic songs, "Anyway" and "Christmas," close things on a more cheerful note. WHERE IT GOES is an exceptional record.

Rolling Stone (5/18/95, pp.90-92) - 3.5 Stars - Very Good - "...Carson's erotic despair and sophisticated backing call up images of the American Music Club fronted by Joni Mitchell....If you are willing to give yourself over to her passionate melancholy, Lori Carson offers a modern take on the singer/songwriter confessional, cloaked in a shroud of mystery..." Entertainment Weekly (4/14/95, p.64) - "...While she doesn't possess the powerful pipes of Shawn Colvin (whom she resembles stylistically), Carson's wounded whisper is downright seductive. She may not shake the walls, but she can make you shiver..." - Rating: B+ Where It Goes Music | List Price | $11.98 (You save $1.39) | | Category | Rock Albums, Alternative CDs, Rock/Pop | | Label | Restless | | Orig Year | 1995 | | All Time Sales Rank | 53048 | | CD Universe Part number | 1128221 | | Catalog number | 72787 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Apr 11, 1995 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Mono/Stereo | Stereo | | Producer | Anton Fier | | Engineer | Dan Gellert; Layng Martine III; Layng Martine, Jr. | | Personnel | Anton Fier - tamboura, drums, shaker Larry Saltzman - guitar, electric guitar Knox Chandler - guitar, cello Alan Bezozi - glockenspiel, cymbals, shaker, triangle Chris Cunningham - guitar, acoustic guitar Irwin Fisch - cello, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, organ, synthesizer Lori Carson - vocals, acoustic guitar Lydia Kavanagh - background vocals Paul Pimsler - acoustic guitar Tony Conniff - electric bass

Where It Goes music CDs
$10.59 Dysrhythmia marked a creative expansion for the Relapse Records roster, Pretest consisting entirely of instrumentals with no death/grind buzz-saw guitar tones or blastbeats -- or anything too "metal" at all, actually -- in sight. Instead, Dysrhythmia explores vaguely prog avenues lined with jagged, angular Jesus Lizard-esque riffs, odd time signatures, and Sonic Youth-styled dissonance and lyrical guitar doodles; the latter smartly used to draw the listener into a fracas that would otherwise be a cold, detached listening experience. Arrangements usually start off sparse and build ...

Where It Goes songs
$11.49 "Natalie Illeana takes different genres to form eclectic sound for 'Unbalanced' debut album" writes L. Kent Wolgamott of the Lincoln Journal Star. Taking instant notice of a smile-beaming California girl who recently settled in Lincoln, Nebraska. Wolgamott continues, "Unbalanced is a 10-song CD that's a hard-to-pigeonhole mix of singer/songwriter pop, rock and even a little bit of country." A melodic, pop/rock album packed with guitar hooks that get in your head and won't let you sleep. Illeana is an undeniably talented word smith who possesses true prominence in the music business. "Unbalanced" was released on January 1st, 2007. "2 Sides of ME" was released August 21st, 2008.But if one must compare, Natalie Illeana and her band would best be described as Rilo Kiley meets the Rock-N-Roll heavyweights, The Supersuckers; hard-edged and catchy rock that is unambiguously softened by her tranquil, melodious voice and introspective lyrics. Writing songs at the age of 14, Natalie was raised an MTV child, coming into bloom when she and the world were swept up in the Nirvana revolution. In addition to the grunge icons from Seattle, bands like Weezer, Green Day, S.T.P. and The Rentals ...
