Three years after releasing the first volume of The Women of Kerrville, Silverwolf followed up with this CD, which contains some highlights of the Kerrville Folk Festivals of 1996, 1997, and 1998. Like Vol. 1, Vol. 2 favors diversity and takes a fairly unpredictable look at female artists who appeared at the festival (which had been going on since the early '70s). A delicate, gently introspective approach to folk-pop is heard on Dee Carstensen's "Time," Betty Elders' "Longbed from Kenya," Barbara Kessler's "Notion," and Anne Hills' "First Day of Autumn," but you'll find a grittier country-rock outlook on the Burn Sisters' "God Made Woman," and Emily Kaitz's humorous "Shallow End of the Gene Pool." One of the strongest performances comes from Pele Juju, an all-female worldbeat combo from California. Drawing on African and Caribbean pop, the exuberant "Move" questions the hectic, stressful lifestyles of the '90s and urges listeners to slow down and find more time for family, friends, and pleasure. JSP's outstanding four-CD Bob Wills anthology consists of 100 classic Western swing performances recorded between September 1935 and April 1940 in Dallas, Fort Worth, Chicago, and Saginaw. Almost all of these 78-rpm records came out under the name of the Texas Playboys; the only exceptions are two fiddle and guitar duets by Bob Wills and Sleepy Johnson and a pair of early ditties by the Fort Worth Doughboys. Bozeman, Montana's Ten Foot Tall and 80 Proof have never wondered where music might take them but rather where they could take their music. Since the band formed in early 2006, Ten Foot Tall and 80 Proof has rapidly ascended the regions musical ladder. Founded on the principle that real country music should never take a back seat to over produced crossover country pop, Ten Foot Tall set out to reset the country music bar starting in Montana's Gallatin Valley. Over the past 2 years 10/80 has been gaining a reputation as the valley's best country dance band, bringing back the rich western tradition of couples dancing. In January 2007 they embarked on a recording project with friend and recording engineer Jamey Warren which resulted in their debut album, 'Princess Of Doom', released in January 2008. This CD is comprised of all original material that is reminiscent of ole' Hank and George Jones but with a 10/80 twist.
