This is a DTS CD, which features DTS 5.1 Surround Sound technology and is playable on a DTS-capable 5.1 Surround Sound system.
SO WHAT'S NEW? finds the gentleman of jazz piano still going strong. His vibrant character is as evident as ever on this collection of originals recorded with his quartet in the midst of a busy touring schedule. Brubeck's lush chord voicings and rhythmic variety are present, with just a touch of sweet sentimentality around the edges. You won't find any grandstanding or over-production here; just straight-ahead swing with a freshness and grace that is Brubeck's trademark.
With Bobby Militello on alto and flute and longtime collaborators Jack Six on bass and Randy Jones on drums, Brubeck gets things off to a swinging start with "It's Deja Vu All Over Again." A beautiful solo piano intro to "Fourth Of July" develops into a classic Brubeck waltz. The lightly swinging "Marian McPartland," named after Brubeck's fellow pianist, is a standout feature for Militello who turns in a rollicking solo. Brubeck himself is up to the task as well, as he unfolds many an impressive improvisation. The harmonically intricate solo "Her Name Is Nancy" is just one example of his keyboard and composing prowess. Other standouts include the beautiful "I'm Still In Love With A Girl Named Oli" and the straight-ahead swing of "Sahra."

So What's New? CD music
$12.65 Long Way Down is an explosive hard rock band whose live performances have been creating a fan frenzy whenever they grace the stage. So much so that it has seen them share the bill with the likes of Bif Naked, Theory of a Deadman, Wide Mouth Mason, Default, The Trews, Grady, Thornley and the Armchair Cynics to name a few. The continual and consistent progression and evolution in everything related to their music has always been the bands prime mandate. This heavy-hitting quintet was conceived in the prairie capital city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in June of 2001. Long Way Down originated as a four piece project with vocalist Jakk Grandy, guitarist Steve Faulkner, drummer Gerred Cloutier and bassist Ryan Hueston. The original line-up has gone through several personnel changes at various points in time since their inception. Bass player Rob Komarnisky joined Long Way Down in June of 2004 replacing interim bass man Rob MacDonald. The group then amicably parted ways with drummer Gerred Cloutier in July of 2005 just weeks prior to commencement of their debut EP Recording. Nathan Kidd was recruited to fill-in for two performance commitments later that fall and officially joined in August 2005. Upon completion of tracking the EP in early January, guitarist Brian Makowsky answered a musicians wanted ad in Edmontons See Magazine and after just two rehearsals, it was apparent that Brians style worked well within the group. Brian completed the five man line-up in early February of 2006. Long Way Down performed in the Extreme Band Slam 2004 as part of the Canadian Music Week regional finals. Long Way Down was a winner of the 2005 Kokanee Free Ride Battle ...
