Best Of The Dixie Hummingbirds CD music
$15.65 On THE BLUEPRINT 3, still unretired Jay-Z announces "the only rapper to rewrite history without a pen." It's a standard Jigga boast, but the Brooklyn icon has earned the bragging by backing it up, particularly on his gold-label, top-shelf BLUEPRINT series. Ever-ready for battle, Jay-Z takes on autotune, crossover radio, and many other hip-hop concerns with the gloriously jagged rap elan for which he's become known.

| | Charles Mingus' Finest Hour CD (2002)
Best Of The Dixie Hummingbirds songs
$8.39 Recorded between 1947 & 1963. Includes liner notes by Brian Priestly.
Charles Mingus' Finest Hour, while a fine and eccentric collection of music, is only his finest hour of music on the labels owned by Universal-Emarcy, Mercury, Verve, and a few others. These include sessions where Lionel Hampton ( and not Mingus) was the bandleader. No matter. The majority, and the best of the material here, comes from the wonderful Pre-Bird set issued on Emarcy with Ted Curson, Marcus Belgrave and many others in a 25-piece orchestra that played Mingus compositions written before he met Charlie Parker. The other stuff comes from live concerts including some fine European sounds with Eric Dolphy, and some of the Bethlehem material. This is a decent look at a strange period between periods -- between Atlantic and Columbia -- for the giant one. ~ Thom Jurek
All tracks have been digitally remastered.

| | Brother Ali Shadows On The Sun CD (2004)
Best Of The Dixie Hummingbirds album
$11.59 "We don't have bar mitzvahs," raps Brother Ali on "Room With a View," "we become men the first time our father hits us." There's a lot of anger and pain behind the sophomore (and first CD) release by the self-described "urban Norman Rockwell," but Brother Ali chooses not to wallow in self-pity. Instead, his carefully observed lyrics draw on his Muslim faith and his personal experiences, including the self-esteem issues he has faced as a heavy-set albino, to convey a positive message of transcending rage and overcoming self-doubt. Brother Ali ...
| | Ultimate Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Vol. I: 1978-1982 CDs (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
Best Of The Dixie Hummingbirds CD music
$26.29 An unique compilation of songs by Pakistani composer, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's stature in the West was largely a result of his cross-cultural collaborations and slickly produced recordings on the Real World label, but he was already a huge star in Pakistan with many recordings to his credit. The Ultimate Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Vol. 1 is a collection of some of his Pakistani recordings dating from 1978-1982, before his international stardom. This is pure, undiluted qawwali: vocals, harmonium, tabla, and handclaps with the addition of a qanoun (similar to a ...

Best Of The Dixie Hummingbirds CD music
$14.75 Grammy Award winner Michael Giacchino tries his hand at the hallowed franchise.
Rebooting a 40-year franchise is no easy task. Yet LOST mastermind JJ Abrams has taken STAR TREK under his wing to update the futuristic space saga as a prequel, pitting younger incarnations of iconic characters like Kirk and Spock against an alien menace, before the launch of the original 1960s television series. Grammy and Emmy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (LOST, RATATOUILLE, CLOVERFIELD) was tapped to provide a fresh, energetic score to the new film. Taking a cue from David Arnold and the James Bond prequel CASINO ROYALE, Giacchino's music is completely new and only brings the classic theme music into the score during the closing credits. STAR TREK is a hallowed franchise, with the likes of James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, and Alexander Courag
