| | Begin Sweet World CD Richard Stoltzman Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
The flawlessly assembled program, released in 1986, includes six original ballads written by longtime collaborator Bill Douglas; classical selections by Bach, Faure, and Debussy; jazz-tinged pieces from Thelonius Monk and producer/synthesist Jeremy Wall; and Stoltzman's signature rendition of "Amazing Grace." Douglas's refined touch on piano, electric piano and bassoon, and Eddie Gomez's soulful string bass round out a sonically and musically superior album that has something for just about everyone. Begin Sweet World is one of the all-time great music gifts. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats Begin Sweet World Music Review Purchase Begin Sweet World CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Richard Stoltzman Dreams CD (1994)

There are a variety of soloists, orchestras, and conductors on the disc, with a wide spectrum of performing techniques and styles. You'll find unexpected arrangements that create amusing sounds--explore it all with your children, especially if you want to introduce the world of classical music to them and don't know where to start.

| | Ravi Shankar West Meets East: Historic Shankar/Menuhin Sessions CD (1967)
Begin Sweet World songs
$8.29 That a Western violinist should choose to pair with the illustrious Ravi Shankar is not in itself surprising. The violin was fully absorbed (and tuned much lower) by the Indian classical music establishment by the 19th century, and more recently has produced performers such as Dr. L. Subramaniam, Lalgudi Jayaraman, and the highly experimental L. Shankar. However, aside from being a highly accomplished set of recordings, the WEST MEETS EAST series--three Menuhin-Shankar collaborations that were later distilled into this one--elevated world music to new heights.
Menuhin had championed Indian music in the West for years before learning how to play it. His sensitivity to the material is demonstrated on "Swara Kakali," particularly during the tremendous duet that closes the track. On the evening raga, "Raga Piloo," Menuhin and Shankar glide in and out of each other's styles in a performance that is alternately Indian ...
