Heifetz Collection Vol 17 - Bach: Sonatas & Partitas
$9.65 Personnel: Kenny Burrell (acoustic & electric guitars); Ray Drummond (bass); Yoran Israel (drums). Strange as it seems, the main criticism about this CD and about Kenny Burrell's playing during the past couple decades is that he is often overly tasteful. On this set (which has six unaccompanied guitar solos, four duets with bassist Ray Drummond, and three trio numbers with Drummond and drummer Yoron Israel), ...

$36.49 | | Tal Farlow Complete 1956 Private Recordings CDs (2003) (Import) Remastered; Spain
Heifetz Collection Vol 17 - Bach: Sonatas & Partitas
$22.05 Full title - Complete 1956 Private Recordings. This outstanding 2 CD set features the Tal Farlow trio at its best, in an informal session recorded at the home of jazz enthusiast Ed Fuerst. The exciting pianist Eddie Costa and bassist Vinnie Burke gracefully accompany Farlow's guitar genius on this unique recording. The session includes a nearly 16 minute version of 'Out of Nowhere' that also features vocalist Gene Williams. 20-bit remastered.
Personnel includes: Tal Farlow, Eddie Costa, Vinnie Burke. Personnel: Tal Farlow (guitar); Gene Williams (vocals); Eddie Costa (piano). Liner Note Author: Eric Mills. Recording information: New York, NY (12/18/1956). Definitive Records from Spain has been issuing very exciting re-releases and unusual items for years now, but in 2002 they picked up the pace with a series of recordings that had not been seen on U.S. shores on compact disc before. This double CD was issued as two separate albums on the Xanadu label under the titles Fuerst Set and Second Set -- the man who recorded them was jazz enthusiast Ed Fuerst. While the sound here is in mono, and a tad distorted because it wasn't recorded in a studio but in a New York City apartment, the performance of this trio of Farlow with pianist Eddie Costa and bassist Vinnie Burke is among the finest items ever released in his catalog and reveals more than his recordings with Hank Jones and Oscar Pettiford the following year. The program is a varied one -- Duke Jordan's skippy yet funky "Jordu," Rodgers & Hart's "Have You Met Miss Jones," Horace Silver's "Opus de Funk," the Johnny Mercer nugget "I'll Remember ...
| | Otis Rush All Your Love I Miss Loving: Live At The Wise Fools, Chicago CD (2005)
Heifetz Collection Vol 17 - Bach: Sonatas & Partitas
$12.89 When "Cold Day In Hell" (DMK #638) was released in 1976, it was the first full-length album Otis Rush had out in quite some time. Later that year, a live show at The Wise Fools was recorded which was broadcast on Chicago's WXRT and used as a promotional
Personnel: Otis Rush (vocals, guitar); Otis Rush; Bob Levis (guitar); Chris Mason (alto saxophone); Rawl Hardman (tenor saxophone); Bob Stroger (bass instrument); Jesse Green , Jesse Lewis Green (drums); Alberto Gianquinto (electric piano). Additional personnel: Chris Mason, Rawl Hardman. Audio Mixers: Steve Wagner ; Ken Rasek. Liner Note Author: Steve Tomashefsky. Recording information: The Wise Fools Pub, Chicago, IL (01/1976). Otis Rush has the home-court advantage on this live set recorded in Chicago, and he had just recently made his first album for Delmark--the great COLD DAY IN HELL--when he played this gig. Consequently both the musicians and a number of the tunes on the setlist hail from that album, though a couple of those are also Rush classics he'd recorded before, like this disc's title tune. This is mid-period Rush at his best, ripping into the songs with ferocious abandon, and really stretching out on the six-string (though never in a self-indulgent fashion). Despite deservedly being one of ...
