HIGHLAND CATHEDRAL was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album.
Phil Coulter's Highland Cathedral collects more of his lush Celtic fusion pieces, which blend traditional instruments such as uilleann pipes, whistles, piano, accordion, and strings with contemporary-sounding synths. "Our Island Barque," "Going Home," and "The Enchanted Glen" define the album's lilting, relaxing feel, and Aoife's delicate vocals on "If These Stones Could Speak" and the title track add another soothing, ethereal dimension to Highland Cathedral, an album that will please Coulter fans as well as anyone fond of atmospheric, new age-inspired Celtic music. ~ Heather Phares

| Highland Cathedral Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Highland Cathdral - transports you to heaven This was my first CD of Phil Coulter. I found the songs to be peaceful and soothing, transporting me in spirit to a wonderful place. It is a nice interpretation of folk melodies put into an atmosphere of "George Winston", "David Nevue" - like piano, mixed with the sound of Enya. Most of the tracks are instrumentals and Iparticularly enjoyed the tunes with Aoife, her soft Irish voice presenting the melodies. I would recommend this to anyone. For Christians, wary of anything "New Age", don't let the "New Age" category fool you here: "Our Island Barque" is a beautiful song, penned by Phil Coulter, with wonderful lyrics - a perfect hymn, especially for those who may be Catholic. integral to any celtic collection Phil Coulter has a phenominal relationship with his instrument. This CD is an important part of any Celtic Collection. Coulter's arrangements are unequaled. Aoife's vocals on If These Stones Could Speak are awesome. Coulter did well to select a vocalist with such an ethereal vocal quality. There is not a bad track on this CD. Coultergeist is truly a fun track - it is a must to read Coulter's cover notes to truly enjoy this track. If you don't yet own a Phil Coulter CD - you should definitely start with this one. Amazing!!!! This was my first Phil Coulter album. The Celtic Treasure Shop in Saratoga Springs was playing it while I was shopping. I loved it, bought it, and now I use it in my alarm clock to wake up every morning. It is just beautiful. Submitted by a reviewer (clifton park, new york) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively gorgeous, McCartney-like "Telephone Line" and the anthemic "Livin' Thing" were well-deserved smashes), ELO was one of the few '70s bands whose appeal covered both the FM and AM spectrums. The album even resurrects "Do Ya," a classic single by Lynne's former band, the Move, in a splashy new version.
The next ELO album, 1977's elaborate double-album OUT OF THIS WORLD, was probably the band's commercial high point, but A NEW WORLD RECORD is the group's artistic high-water mark.
Jeff Lynne reportedly regards this album and its follow-up, ...

ELO was big enough by 1974 that some people actually suggested that ELDORADO featured Satanic backward-masking. Of course, the idea was ludicrous; but the band playfully responded by adding a backward message to "Fire on High," the opening instrumental ...
| | Electric Light Orchestra On The Third Day CD (1973) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Expanded Edition
Highland Cathedral songs
$7.59 In some ways, 1973's ON THE THIRD DAY is the first "true" ELO album. Though co-founder Roy Wood had left the band to form the more experimental Wizzard after the first album, his influence was still all over 1972's ELO II, especially on the orchestrated cover of Chuck ...
| | Ry Cooder My Name Is Buddy CD (2007)
Highland Cathedral album
$17.85 With a concept that could have failed on so many levels in lesser hands, Ry Cooder stuns once again in MY NAME IS BUDDY and demonstrates why he is one of America's most adventurous musicians. His chosen material is a loose collection of animal character sketches--the titular Buddy is a cat--based on labor struggles and the lower class in Depression-era America. Think of it as Woody Guthrie meets Beatrix Potter.
While an odd construct on page for a man that jammed with Beefheart, the Stones, and the Buena Vista ...
