God Bless America
$13.85 With an eclecticism characteristic of its members, Waterson:Carthy's first album draws upon not only the archives of British folksong but a Morris tune and a Texas waltz. What is transmitted to the listener, however, is not so much the skill of their res
Personnel includes: Norma Waterson, Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy. Personnel: Martin Carthy (vocals, guitar, mandolin); Eliza Carthy (vocals, fiddle); Norma Waterson (vocals); Jock Tyldesley, Nancy Kerr (fiddle). Liner Note Author: Martin Carthy. Recording information: Panda Studios, North Dalton, Yorkshire, England. Photographer: Nigel Parry. Arrangers: Eliza Carthy; Martin Carthy; Norma Waterson. Waterson:Carthy's first, and probably starkest and most understated, album is a fine testament to the legacies that Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson have carved out for themselves over the years. As with most of their albums, the vocals are pretty equally split between Waterson, Carthy, and daughter Eliza Carthy, with all three combining in great harmony, especially evident on tracks like "Sleep On Beloved." | | Will Millar Journey Of The Celts CD (2001) (Import) Canada
God Bless America
$14.89 Personnel includes: Will Millar, Paul Horn. Includes liner notes by Will Millar. Recording information: Wood Shop, Vancouver Island. Certainly people's passion for Celtic music need not be tied to its rich heritage, but heard in the context of a story recounting the indomitable Irish spirit, it comes alive in unique ways. This beautiful mix of celebratory and meditative pieces chronicles the story of the Irish exodus to North America in the wake of the deadly potato famine in the mid-1800s. Spirited jigs and reels and haunting ballads reflect the mix of sadness and hope felt by the people on the boats seeking a better life. Eight of the nine tracks ...
| | Motown Chartbusters V.10 CD (2001) (Import) United Kingdom
God Bless America
$9.39 Another in the august series of budget-priced hits compilations that flood the market with Motown mania, Motown Chartbusters, Vol. 10 paved the way with golden hits and a few misses from the label's mid- to late-'70s roster. Relying heavily on the super-fabulous Diana Ross and the super-smooth Commodores to carry the weight with a contribution of a scattered six out of 16 songs between them, this compilation is slightly out of balance as Ross powers through the monstrous hits "Love Hangover" and "Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)," plus the 1979 sleeper "The Boss," while the Commodores tone it down with "Three Times a Lady," "Easy," and "Sail On." That leaves the rest of the set shuffled in between the main acts in single songs. But it's still a nifty, if slightly odd group on offer. Rather than continue to go for outstanding top hits, Chartbusters instead includes Syreeta's forgotten "Your Kiss Is Sweet," Tata Vega's ...
| | Rankin Family North Country CD (1995) (Import) Canada
God Bless America
$19.69 1993 album for the successful Canadian Folk/Country outfit. North Country solidifies the group's wholesome reputation. You can always count on The Rankins for at least one exquisite, stand-out pop melody per recording, that one here is the title track's tribute to Canadian wilderness. The voices of Cookie, Heather, and Raylene Rankin blend effectively with an intuitive sense of harmony. These are pure, attractive voices, but with a certain lack of emotional depth that parallels Jimmy and John Morris Rankin's sometimes over-sweetened, keyboard-dominated instrumentation.
The Rankin Family includes: Jimmy Rankin (vocals, guitar), Raylene Rankin, Cookie Rankin, Heather Rankin (vocals), John Morris Rankin (various instruments). Personnel: Jimmy Rankin (vocals, acoustic guitar, snare drum, background vocals); Cookie Rankin, Raylene Rankin, Heather Rankin (vocals, hand claps, background vocals); Michael Francis (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, dobro, mandola, mandolin); Dave MacIsaac ...

| | Riverroad Band Dreams CD (2001)
God Bless America
$12.69 The RiverRoad Band is back together and ready to rock after 25 years. This band is hotter than ever and after completeing their debut CD "Dreams". 'The RiverRoad Band' was originaly formed in 1973 under the name River Road. The four original members were Randy Hoggatt: lead/rhythm guitar, lead/backup vocals, song writer, Ron Hoggatt: Drums, Terry Gilpin: bass, backup vocals, song writer, and Mike Hughey: rhythm guitar, lead/backup vocals, song writer, recording and sound engineer. All the members were and still are from Coffeyville, Kansas and were friends before they started the band. In 1975, the band went on the road. They played their four hour set of cover songs from Jackson Browne, Pure Prairie League, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Poco, John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, and many other 70's country rock artists. The band toured Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas till 1976 when the band came in from the road for the birth of Mike Hughey's son. They would never go out on the road again. After playing a few local gigs, the band broke up and the members all joined other area bands. Since the original members all lived in Coffeyville, it wasn't hard for them to keep in touch and remain friends. After 23 years, these four guys got back together to record their first album. This album is all original songs written by Mike, Randy, and Terry. Mike and Randy wrote most of the songs either together or alone, some new and some old, but all had ...
