| | Encore! CD Boston Pops Orchestra Discography of CDs
This CD also includes a 1'28" spoken word track by Keith Lockhart serving as an introduction to the medley "Long Live the King - A Tribute to Elvis."
Among America's most popular entertainers, the Boston Pops thrill audiences with their renditions of the classics and innovative expression of musical trends. ENCORE! celebrates the Pops' fifth year of recording under the leadership of Keith Lockhart, it collects favorite tracks from past recordings.
From traditional pieces like "Song of the Volga Boatmen" to more contemporary hits, such as "Riverdance," the Pops deliver hearty, feel-good performances. They don't shy away from adding unconventional instruments to the orchestration: "Riverdance" includes an electric fiddle, synthesizer and guitar. Alongside perennial favorites like "Stars and Stripes Forever," they add surprises, such as the bonus track "Long Live the King! - A Tribute to Elvis," recorded live at Symphony Hall. This medley of "Jailhouse Rock, "Can't Help Falling in Love" and "Hound Dog" embodies the irreverent spirit that makes the Boston Pops a national treasure.

$16.19 In 1972, Stax Records was second only to Motown as America's most successful black-owned record company, and as part of an ambitious bid to grow into a multimedia empire, the Memphis-based label had opened offices in Los Angeles and was eager to announce its presence in the community. The Watts Summer Festival was an annual celebration staged in the beleaguered Watts neighborhood of L.A., a mostly African-American community that had been scarred by race riots in the late '60s, and in 1972 Stax did something special for the occasion: it staged an all-day concert at the Los Angeles Coliseum on the final day of the Watts festival, with nearly every artist on the Stax roster appearing live on-stage and tickets priced at only a dollar. Over 110, 000 people attended the show, a camera crew was on hand to capture the proceedings for a feature film, and a mobile recording ...
