Being one of the more anticipated independent releases of 1998, Orange Rhyming Dictionary combines emo-inflected pop sensibilities with the occasional keyboards. Despite the occasional use of wah-wah pedal guitars in "I Typed for Miles," which sounds almost identical to Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box," Jets to Brazil live up to their hype. Most of the songs clock in at an epic length while containing storytelling lyrics with Blake Schwarzenbach's (formerly of Jawbreaker) trademark raspy vocals. Mood swings also accompany the sound of Orange Rhyming Dictionary, which can move from laid-back and gloomy too upbeat and not as gloomy, all in a good sort of way though. Definitely recommended. ~ Mike DaRonco

Orange Rhyming Dictionary Music Jets To Brazil Orange Rhyming Dictionary Songs Orange Rhyming Dictionary Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Nice It's like emo kicked up a notch or two. Heavy, punk riffs with poetic lyrics and incredible rhythms. Careful - "Sea Anemone" is gonna make you bawl. Submitted by leroybillybob (Bethlehem, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
FAN - TAS - TIC! This is brilliant. I stole it from my boyfriend months ago - he's only just got it back. It's happy, sad, emotional and easy all in one. A fantastic album, I'm off to get the other one now as well!!! Submitted by a reviewer (Rutland, England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
This lives up to the hype. Amazing is an understatement. The lyrics are funny, sad, and endearing while the music behind it is most listenable emo at it's best, while demonstrating it's own nastalgic beauty. An album for anyone who has loved anything. Let it Grow on You I admit that when I first got this cd, i couldn't stand it, and it sat in my cd rack for 6 months or more. I was in the mood for something a bit "more" and I picked it up again. Now, I've bought a second copy (1sy one stolen. grr) and it rarely leaves rotation.
Fans of Jawbreaker (Blake Schwazbach's earlier project) may miss the breaknec speed, but all and moer of the melodies and drumming is there.
JTB is the poppier, more poetic side of Emo punk, but not bubblegum by any stretch. This is the best of JTB, but the later, slower cd's are great too.
The last track on the cd, "I Typed for Miles," is easily the best. Submitted by Andrew agable (CIncinnati, OH, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

Orange Rhyming Dictionary album
$9.55 What's a bunch of punk icons to do when the times that they helped to define start changing? Do they continue doing what they've always done and become an anachronism, play follow the leader, or strike off in a new direction, blazing trails for others to follow? On END HITS, it seems Fugazi has chosen the latter, continuing the transformation ...

Orange Rhyming Dictionary music CDs
$8.95 Whereas on 1995's BUILT TO SPILL CAUSTIC RESIN EP, Built to Spill main-man Doug Martsch used a couple of silly premises and a Kicking Giant cover to get to the guitar flamethrowas, on PERFECT FROM NOW ON, Martsch and fellow axe-grinder Brett Netson duel on tunes that could've been some of the loveliest, most inventive, three-minute guitar-pop of the '90s. Could've been, that is, without those fantastic duels. Instead, PERFECT FROM NOW ON, the band's major-label debut, strikes a balance between tunesmanship and molten-lava guitar flow.
Martsch, who has surrounded himself with a revolving cast of players for most of ...

| | Jets To Brazil Four Cornered Night CDs (2000)
Orange Rhyming Dictionary album
$12.39 Leaving his punk roots completely behind him, Blake Schwarzenbach, former singer/guitarist for Jawbreaker, plays it very sweet on Four Cornered Night, the second record from his slightly arty indie rock project Jets to Brazil. His songs have always been melodramatic, even Jawbreaker's most fiery, emo-punk classics like "Chesterfield Kings" or "I Want You." But with Four Cornered Night, he indulges in the sort of over-the-top sentimentality that is more reminiscent of a lengthy novel by ...
| | Jets To Brazil Perfecting Loneliness CD (2002)
Orange Rhyming Dictionary CD music
$11.59 Perfecting Loneliness finds Jets to Brazil continuing their trajectory from Jawbreaker to Orange Rhyming Dictionary to Four Cornered Night. With this outing, the band develops their folk-pop repertoire via a set of summer-tinged, bittersweet memories. With deeper instrumentation, undone piano melodies, and larger-than-life orchestration, Schwarzenbach and company manage to turn intimate observations into moments of transcendent grandeur -- and while the album might not sound exactly like Nick Drake, the effect is the same. It's an emotional journey for sure, as songs like "Psalm" drift into the territory reserved ...

| | Misty In Roots Roots Controller CD (2002)
Orange Rhyming Dictionary songs
$12.79 So where have these Rasta dudes been during the 12 years since their last album? The liner notes don't give specifics, instead urging listeners to rejoice in the spicy mix of deep social themes (check out the heavy Bob Marley influence on the anti-racist anthem "Cover Up"), bright brass, and reggae grooves. Hailing from Southall in West London, the many-member Misty in Roots has undergone various incarnations in its more than two decades on the scene -- yet the message remains the same. They lay down the Rasta ideology with rich vocal choruses over a bed of throbbing bass, sparkling organ flavors, and punchy horns. The joys of their sound and vision come across from the beginning of "True Rasta," which features a bluesy foundation, a hypnotic reggae lilt, and intense horns. Not to mention warnings ...
