Their second album stuck to the same formula as the first, with a bit more routine results, though "Tidal Wave" is a standout. ~ Richie Unterberger

Lloyd Thaxton Goes Surfing With The Challengers songs
$6.19 (MP3 Available for Download) The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Lloyd Thaxton Goes Surfing With The Challengers album
$6.39 (MP3 Available for Download) This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When ...

Lloyd Thaxton Goes Surfing With The Challengers CD music
$11.99 (MP3 Available for Download) A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. ...
| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
Lloyd Thaxton Goes Surfing With The Challengers MP3 Album
$12.49 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice that Stephin Merritt would probably kill for. Antony's unique pipes bring to mind an androgynous ...

| | Charles Bukowski Reads His Poetry CD (2004) Import
Lloyd Thaxton Goes Surfing With The Challengers CD music
$23.29 There's a major strike against this recording of a September 14, 1972, reading in San Francisco that has nothing to do with the performance or the contents of the readings: the fidelity is poor, sounding as if it was made on a cheap portable tape player from the audience. That makes this more of archival historical value than something that might endure as a document of Charles Bukowski at his best in a live setting. Setting the sound quality aside, the author is reasonably effective in this 40-minute set, which is not so much poems -- or what many average listeners might conceive of as poetry, at any rate -- as vignettes and observations. In keeping with the tone of much of Bukowski's work, these tend toward laconic ...
