Digitally remastered by Bob Irwin (Sundazed Studios, Coxsackie, New York).
One couldn't ask for a more appropriate album title. 1967's EVOLUTION is the link between the Hollies' mid-'60s Beatlesque pop/"Bus Stop" sound and the full blown psychedelic glory of BUTTERFLY. The album's biggest hit "Carrie-Anne," despite its slight Caribbean lilt, is the strongest tie to the pure pop of the band's past. Meanwhile, the quaint, harpsichord-based "Ye Olde Toffee Shoppe" is about as baroque as baroque-pop gets, complete with sprightly flute counterpoint.
"Then The Heartaches Begin" and "Heading For A Fall" stretch out into Move territory with their driving psychedelic rock feel, while "You Need Love"'s chiming guitars and harmonies recall the folk-rock of the Byrds. The vocal harmonies provide the unifying element here. As on the group's early albums, the collective approach to creativity is perfectly manifested by the consistent substitution of harmonies for solo lead vocals.
1999 Sundazed reissue of their 1967 album (originally released on Epic) now featuring 5 bonus tracks, 'When Your Lights Turned On', 'Water On The Brain', 'Jennifer Eccles', 'Signs That Will Never Change' and 'Open Up Your Eyes'. 15 tracks total, including 4 that are not on the U.K. reissue.

Evolution album
$11.95 All tracks have been digitally remastered from the original two-track master tapes.
Psychedelia (albeit of the whimsical British Music Hall persuasion) rears its incense-flavored head here as the Hollies, a band from which almost no one expected Big Statements, tries to come to grips with the Summer of Love. The results are only intermittently successful. But, as the title suggests, there are at least ...

Evolution music CDs
$6.49 On their second album, the cottage dwellers from Berkshire refined their hippie pop into a looser and vastly more mature work: evocative tales of nonsense in the beautiful "40,000 Headmen," joyful malarkey with Mason's "You Can All Join In," and one of his finest songs, "Feelin Alright," which was a signpost to his imminent departure. Throughout the record Jim Capaldi's understated yet steady drums demonstrate just what a great rock drummer should do, and Chris Wood's sound is everywhere, with trills on flute and blasts on saxophone. TRAFFIC is a record that will always be meant for glorious sunny days.
After dispensing with his services in December 1967, the remaining members of Traffic reinstated Dave Mason in the group in the spring of 1968 as they struggled to write enough material for their impending second album. The result was a disc evenly divided between Mason's catchy folk-rock compositions and Steve Winwood's compelling rock jams. Mason's material was the most appealing both initially and eventually: the lead-off track, a jaunty effort called "You Can All Join In," ...
| | Lovin Spoonful Hums Of The Lovin' Spoonful CD (1966)
Evolution songs
$9.79 Originally released on Kama Sutra (8054). Includes liner notes by Dennis Diken.
Having recorded four albums (one of which was the soundtrack WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY?) in slightly over a year, the band was on a shockingly strong roll here (which began to unravel after the release of HUMS, when Zal Yanovsky left). Then all of 22-years old, John Sebastian penned all the songs for HUMS. The album opens with "Lovin' You," a perfect confluence of pop and jugband music, and it closes with their biggest hit, "Summer In the City." In between are the classics "Rain On The Roof" and "Nashville Cats," along with a host of lesser-known, but no less ingratiating numbers from the short-lived but prolific Lovin' Spoonful.
Having released two previous albums and a soundtrack, along with a stream of singles, over the previous 12 and a half months, the Lovin' Spoonful assembled their third regular studio LP, Hums of the Lovin' Spoonful, for release around Thanksgiving 1966. It contained the group's chart-topping single from the previous June, "Summer in the City," along with September's Top Ten hit "Rain on the Roof" (curiously titled "You and Me and Rain on the Roof" on the LP). Released simultaneously with the album and included ...

Although America wasn't the first to catch on to the Beatles, it certainly gave the Fabs a worldwide stage from which to launch their pop music invasion. During the space of 12 months in 1964, Capitol released four Beatles LPs that reshuffled various British Parlophone LPs, EPs, and singles. The result of this rejiggering was four unique titles that, along with those famed Ed Sullivan performances, were the introduction to this global phenomenon for millions in the United States. For the 40th anniversary of these releases, this 2004 set represents the first time these titles were ever available on CD, and features both mono and stereo (or "duophonic") versions of all the songs.
Because of the Beatles' enthusiasm, ...
| | Very Best Of Badfinger CD (2000)
Evolution CD music
$10.85 Recorded between 1970 & 1974. Originally released on Apple & Warner Brothers. Includes liner notes by Andy Davis.
Easily one of pop music's greatest would-be success stories and most well-known tragedies, Beatles proteges Badfinger wrote some of the definitive tunes of the power-pop era. There is considerably more to the story of Badfinger than the 18 tracks on this concise best-of would have it, yet as a primer on this most bittersweet of bands, it certainly does its job. Included here is the Paul McCartney-penned hit single "Come and Get It," the power-pop gem "No Matter What," the pensive "Day After ...
